摘要: An air-cooled heat exchanger for cooling industrial liquids, particularly such which have a tendency to form deposits at least when the temperature thereof drops below a given level, includes a plurality of externally ribbed hollow cooling sections which are arranged in a plurality of parallel rows each including a multitude of the cooling sections, and a plurality of connecting sections which so communicate the cooling sections with one another as to form at least two separate sets of interconnected sections the cooling sections of which alternate with one another in each of the rows. The sections are so interconnected that the liquid to be cooled will flow through each of the sets in each of the rows and between the rows in a meandering path and in a mutual cross-countercurrent with respect to the flow of cooling air which is advanced by a blower transversely of and past the cooling sections. The throughput rate of the blower may be controlled in dependence on the exit temperature of the cooled liquid. The connecting sections are preferably curved tubular elements the radius of curvature of which corresponds to one-half of the spacing between the two cooling sections of the same set within the respective row. The rows may be spaced apart a greater distance than that between the individual cooling sections of each of the rows.

摘要: An apparatus for reheating stack gases leaving a plurality of scrubbers which uses water within an associated steam generator as the heating source. A heat exchanger receives heat from the boiler water transferring it to a low pressure fluid which is circulated through heat exchange surfaces downstream of each of the scrubbers. The flow of the high pressure boiler water is controlled in response to a temperature of the low pressure fluid thereby providing a means for minimizing the flow and return temperature of the high pressure water. The high pressure water is taken from a circulating pump discharge and returned to the circulating pump suction.

摘要: A cooler for process gas of temperatures in excess of 750* C in which the gas passes through tubes, the cooling length of which is subdivided into three sections. The sections comprise; first, a hot or inlet section where the tubes are surrounded by a vaporizing liquid; secondly, a medium temperature or intermediate section where the tubes are arranged in a steam space and cooled by the saturated steam produced; and, thirdly, a cool discharge section where the tubes are surrounded by the vaporizing liquid. The tubes are of inverted U-shape and preferably are of serpentine form where one arm of the U has portions overlapping the other arm for greater heat exchange. Vaporizing liquid is recirculated, added to, and cooled by feedwater.

摘要: Apparatus is disclosed for utilizing relatively low temperature heat sources such as the waste heat of thermally-polluted water for vaporizing liquid mediums such as liquefied natural gas. The apparatus comprises a tank in which is mounted a heat exchanger surrounded by a baffle plate and through which the aforementioned water is flowed. A series of sparger pipes are mounted in the tank below the heat exchanger and within the confines of the baffle plate for discharging air bubbles in an upward direction to increase the transfer of heat from the water and to the liquefied gas flowing through the heat exchanger. Means is provided to sense the temperature of the vapor leaving the heat exchanger for actuating control means associated with a valve which is connected to an inlet pipe of the tank and which is operated to increase the flow of water through the tank in response to a decrease in the temperature of the exiting vapor and to decrease the flow of water through the tank in response to an increase in the temperature of the exiting vapor.

摘要: A hydrothermal, indirect fired liquid petroleum gas vaporization system employed as a stand-by liquefied petroleum gas unit utilizes a forced draft power burner firing into a multiple pass gas fire tube immersed in a heat exchange liquid and isolated from a vaporization assembly through which liquefied petroleum gas is passed. A vaporization assembly for vaporizing the liquefied petroleum gas insures low gas velocities and delivery of dry gas vapor and eliminates liquid gas carryover. The liquefied gas from storage enters a manifold and is distributed into multiple heat exchange tubes immersed in the heat exchange liquid. The liquefied gas vaporizes during passage through the heat exchange tubes and passes into a vapor header and vapor outlet riser, all designed to prevent any liquid gas carryover.

摘要: A method and apparatus for repairing tubes that, during use, develop on the tube surfaces contaminating layers that prevent joining of new tube sections, as in fluid circulating heat transfer installations for chemical reactors. At least two surrounding protective sleeves are initially joined as by welding, to a tube at spaced locations on the tube to protect underlying portions of the tube from development of such layers. If a defect occurs between the sleeves, the defective tube may be removed by cutting through the sleeves and the tube underneath, removing the cut tube section, removing the remaining cut sleeve portions from the adjacent tube ends, and then joining a replacement tube section to the portions of the unremoved tube that were protected by the sleeves, preferably with new sleeves fixed in place over the resulting joints.

摘要: A heat exchanger is provided with horizontally and vertically aligned exchange tubes through which a heat exchange liquid or gas flows with the tubes being of thin-walled construction in the form of a through-the-wall spiral and with a plurality of elongated slats connecting the tube segments to maintain fixed relative spacing with baffle means extending between the slat members on the downstream side of the tubes with respect to a fluid flowing over the exterior of the tubes with the baffles being formed of two arcuately shaped wedge components for directing the fluid flow around the downstream side of the tubes to provide heat flow through substantially the entire tube body with the tubes being arranged in circular array and linear array in two embodiments; in another embodiment the tubes are supported in parallel vertical array so that the external fluid flows along the length of the tubes and a plurality of wave-shaped baffles are mounted between the tubes to direct the gas flow back and forth over the tubes as the flow moves generally along the length of the tubes.
