摘要: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for predicting events using acoustic and visual cues. The present invention processes audio and video information to identify one or more (i) acoustic cues, such as intonation patterns, pitch and loudness, (ii) visual cues, such as gaze, facial pose, body postures, hand gestures and facial expressions, or (iii) a combination of the foregoing, that are typically associated with an event, such as behavior exhibited by a video conference participant before he or she speaks. In this manner, the present invention allows the video processing system to predict events, such as the identity of the next speaker. The predictive speaker identifier operates in a learning mode to learn the characteristic profile of each participant in terms of the concept that the participant nullwill speaknull or nullwill not speaknull under the presence or absence of one or more predefined visual or acoustic cues. The predictive speaker identifier operates in a predictive mode to compare the learned characteristics embodied in the characteristic profile to the audio and video information and thereby predict the next speaker.

摘要: An inverting adapter is disclosed that inverts inverted DVB-ASI signals to produce an adapted DVB-ASI signal. This adapted DVB-ASI signal may be used by any DVB-ASI device. The inverting adapter can be contained in one small package and easily connected to any of the various amplification devices that produce inverted DVB-ASI signals. Alternatively, the inverting adapter of the present invention may be integrally formed with an amplification device to automatically provide the adapted DVB-ASI signal.

摘要: A software architecture for pipeline systems in which data objects are transferred from one processing object to another via queues corresponding to each processing object. In the present invention, the destination queue for a data object is determined by having the current processing object query a pointer object corresponding to the data object rather than by programming it into the current processing object. In this way, the data objects determine their own command paths. The destination processing objects may be determined responsively to an outcome state following the current processing object's handling of the data object. For example, the path object may point to one destination processing object if a result of the current processing object's process was normal and another if faulty.

摘要: A combined calendar/diary application leverages several input mechanisms to enrich the historical record kept by a user. First, the application classifies events sensed by sensors and software monitors to capture and classify data indicative of events of significance to the user. It then requests additional information from the user to create a diary entry. Second, on the basis of the same event data, it may add the classification data to the diary as indicia of financial, emotional, or other states of the user or environment. Third, the system augments appointment using other data, including user input. Fourth, data is extracted from other sources for direct inclusion in the diary database. For example, contemporaneous news data from an Internet news feed may be added. Fifth, the application may periodically prompt the user for diary entries. Sixth the application may support deliberate diary-entry procedure as is done with current diary applications.

摘要: A method and apparatus for providing peer-to-peer communications between televisions wherein a query request is sent from any of the televisions to any other of the televisions. The query request is for information identifying content currently watched on the queried television including samples of the currently watched content. In operation, each television is first identified to each other television. The identifying information includes determining whether a given television may receive content identifying information from each other of the televisions. In some instances, the querying television may only be allowed to receive certain types of content identifying information from the queried television. The identifying of the television is performed by either the televisions or a mediator that is separate from each of the televisions. The televisions receive information identifying what content identifying information a given other television may receive from a user of the televisions. The televisions first determine whether a given user may set and alter the content identifying information a given other television may receive by requesting identifying information from the user such as a password. When a user does not have a proper password, the television will not set and alter the content identifying information a given other television may receive.

摘要: A method for fabricating inter-metal oxide in semiconductor devices and semiconductor devices is provided. The method begins by providing a semiconductor substrate having a plurality of patterned conductive features. The method then moves to where a high density plasma (HDP) operation is performed and is configured to deposit an oxide layer over the plurality of patterned conductive features. The HDP operation includes a deposition component and a sputtering component. The deposition component is driven by a deposition gas and the sputtering component is driven by a sputtering gas. The HDP operation forms oxide pyramids over the plurality of patterned conductive features. The method now moves to where the deposition gas is removed to close off the deposition component in the HDP operation. Now, the HDP operation is run with the sputtering gas while retaining the sputtering component. The sputtering component is configured to substantially remove the oxide pyramids from over the plurality of patterned conductive features. Preferably, the plurality of patterned conductive features are either patterned metallization features or patterned polysilicon features.

摘要: An air-wound, coil-type, passive inductor includes a surface which allows the coil to be picked-up using a vacuum probe of a head of a pick-an-place machine and the surface does not interfere with adjusting the spacing between the loops of the coil for tuning the coil after the coil is attached to a circuit board. Terminal ends of the coil are placed on solder paste on interconnection pads on the circuit board, then the board is heated to reflow the solder, and then washed to remove the flux contained in the solder paste. The surface may be adapted to be removed or at least degraded by the heating, or the washing, or afterwards by a mechanical method of removal without damaging the coil.

摘要: An autobaud method for automatic detection of baud rate and character configuration of a received asynchronous serial data stream by detecting a first predetermined two character sequence in uppercase and lowercase form, notably "AT" and "at", from patterns of signal states and their durations, also provides for detecting a second predetermined two character sequence of "A/" and "a/" and for substantially immediate automatic echoing of the first and second predetermined character sequences if autoechoing is enabled. The baud rate and character configuration used for subsequent characters is not be changed unless, after the autobaud function is enabled, the first predetermined two character sequence in either uppercase or lowercase form is received, and a different baud rate and/or character configuration is determined from the received pattern of signal states and their durations. The baud rate is determined by measuring the duration of a signal state begun by an apparent transition from a stop bit or idle state, and determining whether the measured duration falls within any of a set of predetermined bit time ranges or legal windows, each corresponding to a different baud rate of a set of predetermined standard baud rates.

摘要: A semiconductor device includes a semiconductor substrate, e.g., a part of a silicon wafer having an oxide layer disposed thereon. A metal stack is disposed over the semiconductor substrate and a dielectric layer is disposed over the metal stack. The dielectric layer has a via hole formed therein that is misaligned with the metal stack such that a portion of the via hole extends beyond the top of the metal stack and exposes at least a portion of one of the sidewalls of the metal stack. A sidewall cap layer is formed on the exposed portion of the sidewall of the metal stack. The sidewall cap layer is configured to resist substantial penetration of WF.sub.6 during chemical vapor deposition of tungsten. The sidewall cap layer may be a nitrided layer or a layer of a dielectric material. A conductive material comprised of tungsten is disposed in and substantially fills the via hole. Methods for making a conductive via in a semiconductor device are also described.
