    摘要: A tristable liquid crystal display device comprises (a) first and second opposed substrates, at least one bearing an alignment coating and each bearing at least one electrode so as to define one or a plurality of pixels; (b) a tilted smectic or induced tilted smectic liquid crystal composition disposed between the substrates; and (c) a pair of orthogonally disposed polarizers, each having a polarization axis, one polarization axis being aligned with the zero field optical axis of a tilted smectic or induced tilted smectic mesophase of the liquid crystal composition; wherein the substrates are disposed so as to provide an alignment of the liquid crystal composition, the composition comprising at least one chiral liquid crystal compound that can be represented by the following formula:R--M--N--(P).sub.b --OCH.sub.2 C*HF--CH.sub.2 O(CH.sub.2).sub.a R.sub.f(I)where M, N, and P are independently selected from the group consisting of aromatic, heteroaromatic, alicyclic, heteroalicyclic, substituted aromatic, substituted heteroaromatic, substituted alicyclic, and substituted heteroalicyclic rings, the individual rings being fused or non-fused, and the rings being connected with each other by a covalent bond or an organic linking group; R is alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, or alkoxy alkylene; * designates a chiral center; a is an integer of 0 or 1; b is an integer of 0 or 1; and Rf is a perfluoroether group.

    摘要: A hybrid vehicle includes an engine and a motor each for generating vehicle driving power. An operation region indicated by rotational speed and torque of the engine includes: an normal region in which a fuel injection amount is calculated in accordance with a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio; and an amount increase region in which an amount of fuel is increased compared with the normal position so as to suppress temperature increase of a catalyst. A control device calculates a total required power of the vehicle depending on the vehicle state, and determines an engine operation point in accordance with the total required power. When the engine operation point is in the OT amount increase region, the engine operation point is changed to fall within the normal region by decreasing the engine output power. An output power of the motor is determined to compensate the decrease of the engine output power and secure the total required power.

    摘要: A computer system is provided that is capable of reducing an administrator's operational errors by connecting a new server to a SAN and automating a SAN boot setting, and capable of lightening the administrator's task of checking for a wrong connection by detecting a wrong connection made when a new server is connected to an SNW connection device. Once a new server connected to a PnP SAN starts with a boot program obtained from a boot management server, the new server transmits configuration information on the new server to a resource management server. In response to a request from the resource management server, a storage device refers to PnP SAN information to transmit SAN information on a storage network connection device to which the new server is connected. The resource management server determines to add the new server to a resource group on the basis of the SAN information and requirement information. The resource management server sets the storage device and the new server for SAN-booting the new server.
