摘要： A tilt anvil assembly is disclosed which includes a center rod and a head assembly pivotally mounted to the center rod. The head assembly includes a housing, a post, an anvil plate and a backup member. The backup member is movable about the post from a first position preventing pivotal movement of the head assembly to a second position accommodating pivotal movement of the head assembly. A pivotal latch assembly is also provided to prevent movement of the backup member from its second position to its first position.

摘要： A tissue retaining ring for use with a plurality of surgical fasteners mounted within a disposable loading unit utilized during a vascular anastomosis inlcudes a genrally circular, semi-pliable material having a series of alternating loops and arcuate portions. Each of the loops defines an aperture therein which is dimensioned to receive a distal end of one of the plurality of surgical fasteners. When the instrument is fired, the surgical fasteners are simultaneously deformed through the tissue ring and through the tissue. The tissue retaining ring holds the tissue in place along the surgical fastener and reduces the chances of tissue slippage after deformation.

摘要： A surgical apparatus for securing a needle extending therethrough includes a post having a channel therein mounted to a base. The post is positioned in operative alignment with the needle mounted on the base. A locking member is associated with the post in operative alignment with the needle. The locking member defines an opening therethrough to receive the needle, and the locking member is operable between a needle receiving position wherein the needle may be inserted or removed from the locking member and a needle retaining position wherein the needle is retained in at least one direction of movement. A method for surgically localizing and removing tissue includes the steps of providing a tissue cutting member mounted on a base and defining an opening near a distal end, the tissue cutting member further forming a tissue receiving cavity in communication with the opening, a needle disposed within the cavity and defining a longitudinal passageway therethrough, a post mounted on the base and a locking member mounted on the post and defining having a needle receiving opening in operative alignment with the needle, the locking member being operable between a needle receiving position wherein the needle may be inserted or removed from the locking member and a needle retaining position wherein the needle is retained in at least one direction of movement, locking the needle within the locking member by rotating the locking member into the needle retaining position, positioning the needle within target tissue, severing the tissue to be removed and removing the severed tissue from a patient.

The retractor device includes a loop of material at a distal end of the instrument which is extendable and retractable from the elongated body portion of the instrument. The loop of material may be detached to be wrapped about an organ and reattached to secure the organ. Once the organ is secured, the loop of material may be retracted into the body portion of the instrument to manipulate the organ.

摘要： A self contained gas powered endoscopic surgical apparatus is provided for placing lateral lines of surgical fasteners into body tissue. The apparatus includes a frame portion, an elongated portion extending from the frame portion, and an articulating fastener applying assembly associated with a distal end of the elongated portion. The fastener applying assembly includes a base portion, a staple cartridge housing, and an anvil member which has a forming surface thereon against which surgical fasteners are driven as they are ejected from the cartridge housing. A self contained pneumatic system is associated with the frame portion and is actuable to eject the surgical fasteners from the cartridge assembly. A first mechanism is provided for effectuating the rotation of the fastener applying assembly about an axis defined by the body portion, a second mechanism is provided for effectuating the articulation of the fastener applying assembly, and a third mechanism is provided for independently rotating the cartridge housing and anvil member relative to a longitudinal axis defined by the base position to increase the range of operability of the apparatus.

摘要： A gun includes a pivoting barrel assembly, a trigger/hammer double action firing mechanism, and a barrel/inline valve mechanism for firing projectiles. The pivoting barrel assembly includes a projectile-holding rotatable cylinder and an indexing mechanism for rotating the cylinder when the trigger is pulled. A hammer is cocked by a hammer link which is operatively connected to the trigger, and a cam on the hammer lifts the hammer link out of engagement with the hammer when the hammer reaches its cocked position. The valve mechanism includes a valve stem which is slidably mounted in a valve body. A pin portion on the valve stem extends through a valve seal and a valve seal retainer, and the valve seal retainer is retained in the valve body by retainer pins which extend through the body into a groove in the valve seal retainer. A detent housing is connected to the valve body, and a detent is slidably mounted with the detent housing. The detent is engageable with projectile chambers in the cylinder.

摘要： A gun is provided with a removable rotary ammunition clip assembly and a slidably mounted barrel to permit the clip assembly to be removed if a pellet jams in a position partially out of the clip and partially in the barrel. The clip assembly is an integral unit and includes a cylindrical loader which is rotatably mounted on the clip housing, an index lever and pawl for rotating the loader, and a transfer bar for translating sliding movement of the trigger into pivoting movement of the index lever. Sliding movement of the trigger moves the trigger link against a hammer for cocking the hammer, and the trigger link moves a hammer latch out of a latching position in which it will engage the hammer to prevent accidental discharge.
