Abstract: A component inspection process includes positioning a component (e.g., a semiconductor component or other object) such that component sidewalls are disposed along an optical path corresponding to sidewall beam splitters configured for receiving sidewall illumination provided by a set of sidewall illuminators, and transmitting this sidewall illumination therethrough, toward and to component sidewalls. Sidewall illumination incident upon component sidewalls is reflected from the component sidewalls back toward the sidewall beam splitters, which reflect or redirect this reflected sidewall illumination along an optical path corresponding to an image capture device for sidewall image capture to enable component sidewall inspection. Sidewall illuminators and sidewall beam splitters can form portions of a five sided inspection apparatus that includes a brightfield illuminator, a darkfield illuminator, and an image capture beam splitter such that the five sided inspection apparatus is configurable for inspecting component bottom surfaces and/or component sidewalls in a selective/selectable manner.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system for measuring the hemoglobin concentration in whole blood, wherein the system comprises: a light-radiating unit including a light source that emits two types of incident light having different wavelengths; a diffusion unit which diffuses the incident light emitted by the light-radiating unit; a cuvette-holding unit which is formed so as to hold a cuvette including a blood sample; a detection unit which detects each absorbance of the two types of incident light having different wavelengths; a processing unit which determines the hemoglobin concentration in the blood by processing the measured absorbance result; and a control unit which regulates the two types of incident light having different wavelengths in order to repeatedly/sequentially radiate same. Although the system for measuring hemoglobin in whole blood of the present invention uses a small amount of whole blood, it is possible to measure the total hemoglobin concentration in an accurate and reliable manner. The system of the present invention aligns the paths of two types of incident light having different wavelengths passing through a microcuvette by using a diffuser plate so as to easily align a light source and increase the reliability of the results. Also, the system of the present invention uses two wavelengths so as to rapidly and accurately measure the total amount of hemoglobin, including oxidized and reduced hemoglobin.

Abstract: A brightness calibration method used in an optical detection system includes a single source illuminator and a probe card. The single source illuminator is configured to illuminate the probe card. The probe card has a plurality of detection sites. The brightness calibration method includes: sequentially detecting brightness values at the detection sites through one of a plurality of diffusers by a sensing chip; sequentially detecting transparencies of the diffusers at one of the detection sites by the sensing chip; and selecting and respectively disposing the diffusers corresponding to larger ones of the transparencies over the detection sites corresponding to smaller ones of the brightness values, and selecting and respectively disposing the diffusers corresponding to smaller ones of the transparencies over the detection sites corresponding to larger ones of the brightness values.

Abstract: A system is described for obtaining images of a gemstone, and performing quantitative analysis on the images to obtain measures of properties of the gemstone. The system comprises a support structure for supporting the gemstone at an observation position. An illumination structure is arranged to illuminate the gemstone. The illumination structure comprises a plurality of radially dispersed directional light sources directed towards the observation position, the support structure and illumination system being rotatable relative to one another around a rotation axis so that the gemstone can be illuminated by one or more of the directional light sources at each of a plurality of rotational positions, the axis of rotation being normal to a selected facet of the gemstone. An imaging device is directed towards the gemstone for obtaining images of the gemstone at each of the rotational positions, the imaging device having an imaging axis parallel to or coincident with the axis of rotation. An image processor is provided for identifying sparkle regions in the images corresponding to reflections from individual light sources by individual facets and providing a quantitative measure of the gemstone on the basis of porperties of the sparkle regions.

Abstract: A double-light cabinet for testing a biological sample labeled with fluorochrome includes a case, in which a light unit and a diffusion unit are received. The light unit has two spot light sources to emit spot lights with specified wavelengths according to the test, and the diffusion unit diffuses the spot lights into surface lights, to which that the biological sample is exposed. The present invention further includes an amber filter unit to filter the surface light to enhance the signal of biological samples. Using the lights with specified wavelengths, the present invention may serve both functions of excitation and illumination of the biological sample.
