摘要: A detection system with a two-step homogenizing device (1) and with a receiver (42). Viewed in a field direction (54) of a photon field, the homogenizing device (1) is located between a measurement area (44) and the receiver (42). The homogenizing device (1) includes a first diffuser (10) and a second diffuser (12). The first diffuser (10) generates an intermediate photon field from an input photon field. The second diffuser (12) generates an output photon field from the intermediate photon field. The receiver (42) generates signals depending on the incident photon field.

摘要: A gas sensing system can allow a gas sample to permeate hollow spaces within a porous scattering material. The porous scattering material can be substantially transparent at an illumination wavelength. An emitter can illuminate the porous scattering material and the gas sample with light having a spectrum that includes the illumination wavelength. A sensor can detect a level of light that has traversed the porous scattering material. Using, for example, the Beer-Lambert Law, the system can determine a concentration of the gas material in the gas sample. The scattering can greatly increase an optical path length through the porous scattering material, compared with a linear dimension of the porous scattering material. The increased optical path length can allow a gas chamber to shrink in size, thereby decreasing a size of the gas sensing system without a corresponding decrease in a sensitivity and/or an accuracy of the system.

摘要: A device and method for identifying solid and liquid materials use near-infrared transmission spectroscopy combined with multivariate calibration methods for analysis of the spectral data. Near-infrared transmission spectroscopy is employed within either the 700-1100 nm or the 900-1700 nm wavelength range to identify solid or liquid materials and determine whether they match specific known materials. Uses include identifying solid (including powdered) and liquid materials with a fast measurement cycle time of about 2 to 15 seconds and with a method that requires no sample preparation, as well as quantitative analysis to determine the concentration of one or more chemical components in a solid or liquid sample that consists of a mixture of components. A primary application of such analysis includes detection of counterfeit drug tablets, capsules and liquid medications.

摘要: An apparatus and method are provided for creating an image of a microarray. The apparatus includes at least one light source configured to direct light toward the microarray. The apparatus includes an excitation filter configured to filter the light into a first frequency band towards dichromatic mirror. The dichromatic mirror reflects light onto the microarray causing the microarray to emit electromagnetic energy. The apparatus includes emission filter configured to filter the electromagnetic energy within a second frequency band. The apparatus further includes an imaging unit having a charged coupled device (CCD), the CCD having an imaging surface masked by a pinhole blind such that when the pinhole blind receives electromagnetic energy from the emission filter, an image is created of the entire microarray.
