Abstract:
Lower eukaryote host cells in which the function of at least one endogenous gene encoding a chaperone protein, such as a Protein Disulphide Isomerase (PDI), has been reduced or eliminated and at least one mammalian homolog of the chaperone protein is expressed are described. In particular aspects, the host cells further include a deletion or disruption of one or more O-protein mannosyltransferase genes, and/or overexpression of an endogenous or exogenous Ca2+ATPase. These host cells are useful for producing recombinant glycoproteins in large amounts and for producing recombinant glycoproteins that have reduced O-glycosylation.

The present invention relates to the use of a polyalkenoate acid, such as polyacrylic acid or polymaleic acid, in the manufacture of an air abrasive agent for use in conditioning dental tissue, methods of using such air abrasive agents, dental compositions comprising a polyalkenoate acid, air abrasive agents comprising a polyalkenoate acid and at least one of a bioactive glass, a glycine salt, baking soda and alumina, methods of treatment and/or prophylaxis using an air abrasive agent comprising a polyalkenoate acid.
Abstract:
A method is described for producing protein compositions having reduced amounts of O-linked glycosylation. The method includes producing the protein in cells cultured in the presence of an inhibitor of Pmt-mediated O-linked glycosylation and/or in the presence of one or more α-1,2-mannosidases.

The present invention provides compounds and methods of using of the compounds as anti-infective agents. In a preferred embodiment, the present invention provides wherein R1 is not H when R2 is H and R2 is not H when R1 is H, further wherein R1 is CH(2n+1)O, wherein n is 1-10; wherein R2 is OH or CH(2n+1)O, wherein n is 1-10; and wherein A, B and R1, R2, R5, R6, and R7 are independently selected from a group consisting of H, alkyl and aryl groups and R11 is an alkyl or an aryl group
Abstract:
A financial institution can provide financial services to a plurality of remote devices, such as personal computers, personal data assistants, screen phones, automatic teller machines, external service providers, and internally to staff terminals and individual branches. By separating the components of the system into independent components, the system and method can be developed and tested on a component level rather than the entire system level, thereby reducing the development and maintenance cycle time. The system and method operate in sessions and can employ a dialog component for gathering information from a customer, a rule broker component for providing answers to the various legal and regulatory rules in a particular country, a language man component for selecting appropriate language, a transaction executor component for performing transactions, and a presentation manager component for formatting outputs to the customer.
Abstract:
A multifunctional multichip system can operate in a passive mode by using at least one antenna to receive electromagnetic energy and using that energy to perform system functions. The system includes a sensor, an impedance matching circuit and an RFID module. The sensor produces a sensor signal containing a measurement. The RFID can produce an identification signal containing identification information. Alternatively, the RFID chip can be used in an addressing mode wherein the system only produces a signal in response to an addressing signal containing addressing information. The addressing signal is received from the electromagnetic field. In either mode, the sensor signal is coupled from the antenna into the electromagnetic field from which a receiver can obtain it. The signal can contain the identification information as well as the measurement. A matching network minimizes the effects of impedance mismatches between the system elements.
Abstract:
A portable free-standing kit which can serve as a functional trial product, particularly for children, includes a combination of dry toilet paper and moist wipes. A roll of toilet paper is rotatably mounted on a functional spindle housed within the kit. The moist wipes are provided in a container which is supported by either a shelf or the bottom of the kit.
Abstract:
A fluid pumping system that includes a motor and a pump, wherein an output shaft of the motor is directly coupled to an input shaft of the pump. This coupling between the output shaft of the motor and the input shaft of the pump may be the primary mechanism for coupling the motor to the pump. Such a configuration may be called a “floating pump mount”, because the pump is primarily coupled to the motor via the shaft connection. As a result of this connection, the output shaft of the motor may be naturally “aligned” with the input shaft of the pump. To help prevent the pump from freely rotating with the output shaft of the motor during operation, a rotational stop mechanism may be provided. The rotational stop mechanism may include at least one resilient member for absorbing or substantially absorbing at least some of any relative movement between the pump and the motor.

Abstract:
Sensor systems and methods are disclosed herein, including a sensor chip, upon which at least two surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensing elements are centrally located on a first side (e.g., front side) of the sensor chip. The SAW sensing elements occupy a common area on the first side of the sensor chip. An etched diaphragm is located centrally on the second side (i.e., back side) of the sensor chip opposite the first side in association with the two SAW sensing elements in order to concentrate the mechanical strain of the sensor system or sensor device in the etched diagram, thereby providing high strength, high sensitivity and ease of manufacturing thereof.
