Abstract:
A method comprising introducing an organometallic precursor according to a first set of conditions in the presence of a substrate; introducing the organometallic precursor according to a different second set of conditions in the presence of the substrate; and forming a layer comprising a moiety of the organometallic precursor on the substrate according to an atomic layer deposition process. A system comprising a computing device comprising a microprocessor, the microprocessor coupled to a printed circuit board, the microprocessor comprising a substrate having a plurality of circuit devices with electrical connections made to the plurality of circuit devices through interconnect structures formed in a plurality of dielectric layers formed on the substrate and each of the plurality of interconnect structures separated from the plurality of dielectric layers by a barrier layer formed according to an atomic layer deposition process.
Abstract:
A compression molding machine, for compression molding a closure shell having a base wall with an opening and in accordance with one aspect of the disclosure, includes a male mold section and a female mold section having associated surfaces that oppose each other to form a cavity for compression molding the base wall of the closure shell. An annular bead on one of these surfaces cooperates with the opposing other surface to compression mold a disk connected to the base wall by a thin frangible web. The disk and the shell are stripped separately from the mold so that the shell emerges from the machine with the opening formed in the shell base wall by removal of the disk within the machine.
Abstract:
A preconnectorized outdoor cable streamlines the deployment of optical waveguides into the last mile of an optical network. The preconnectorized outdoor cable includes a cable and at least one plug connector. The plug connector is attached to a first end of the cable, thereby connectorizing at least one optical waveguide. The cable has at least one optical waveguide, at least one tensile element, and a cable jacket. Various cable designs such as figure-eight or flat cables may be used with the plug connector. In preferred embodiments, the plug connector includes a crimp assembly having a crimp housing and a crimp band. The crimp housing has two half-shells being held together by the crimp band for securing the at least one tensile element. When fully assembled, the crimp housing fits into a shroud of the preconnectorized cable. The shroud aides in mating the preconnectorized cable with a complimentary receptacle.
Abstract:
A method for forming a metal carbide layer begins with providing a substrate, an organometallic precursor material, at least one doping agent such as nitrogen, and a plasma such as a hydrogen plasma. The substrate is placed within a reaction chamber; and heated. A process cycle is then performed, where the process cycle includes pulsing the organometallic precursor material into the reaction chamber, pulsing the doping agent into the reaction chamber, and pulsing the plasma into the reaction chamber, such that the organometallic precursor material, the doping agent, and the plasma react at the surface of the substrate to form a metal carbide layer. The process cycles can be repeated and varied to form a graded metal carbide layer.
Abstract:
Direct-lit backlights and associated methods and components are disclosed in which a transflector that partially transmits and partially reflects incident light is shaped to form at least one concave structure facing a back reflector of the backlight. This provides at least one recycling cavity therebetween, the at least one recycling cavity substantially filling the output area of the backlight. At least one light source is disposed behind the output area to inject light into each cavity, and can be positioned in the recycling cavity or behind an aperture in the back reflector. The cavities are preferably shallow and wide, having a width-to-depth ratio of at least 5 or 10, and can provide uniform brightness and color at the output area with sparsely distributed light sources and in a thin profile backlight.
Abstract:
A system and method is disclosed herein for obtaining information from web site use. In one embodiment, the method comprises tracking interactions of a user with web content when the user uses a modified link to enter a website. The modified link is a link in a format that resembles a website address for the website but resolves at a location through which the user's interactions can be tracked. The method also includes storing data indicative of tracked interactions in a database.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus of securitizing insurance, reinsurance and retrocession risk is provided. The system provides a vehicle whereby investors may directly participate in such risk. The system includes establishing a limited-life business entity. Capital is raised through the sale of common and/or preferred shares in the business entity. The capital is invested against which the business entity assumes premium and risk liability. After a first predetermined period of time (i.e., an underwriting phase), the business entity stops underwriting risks for premium and gives investors options to liquidate shares in the business entity for cash or in the form of a roll over to a similar business entity. The business entity then runs off remaining risk liabilities during a second predetermined period of time (i.e., a runoff phase). Upon completion of the runoff phase, the business entity distributes all its remaining assets to its shareholders and/or rolls over their equity to another similar business entity, and the original business entity is wound up.
Abstract:
A transducer in the form of a potentiometer provides an output signal indicative of a position of a component. The potentiometer comprises a body, a member moveable relative to the body and having an end portion for coupling to the component, and a resistor mounted to the body. A wiper is coupled to the member and forms a slidable electrical contact to the resistor. The potentiometer also comprises a contactor means for providing selectable contact positions to the resistor of respective first and second electrical conductors, so as to provide a selected operating section of said resistor.
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods of processing kaolin to produce two distinct grades of kaolin in a simultaneous manner. The methods involve processing kaolin by degritting a kaolin crude; subjecting the degritted kaolin crude to flotation to provide a kaolin having reduced titania content; ozonating the kaolin having reduced titania content; centrifuging the kaolin to provide a coarse stream and fine stream; refining the coarse stream into a coarse engineered kaolin pigment; and refining the fine stream into a fine glossing kaolin pigment. Also disclosed are systems for the automated processing of kaolin to produce two distinct grades of kaolin with real time feedback.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are devices for altering gaseous flow within a lung to improve the expiration cycle of an individual, particularly individuals having Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). More particularly, devices are disclosed to produce collateral openings or channels through the airway wall so that expired air is able to pass directly out of the lung tissue to facilitate both the exchange of oxygen ultimately into the blood and/or to decompress hyper-inflated lungs.
