Abstract: An ultrasound probe user's capture of image frames of a patient's organ is assisted by capturing one or more image frames of the ultrasound probe's a field of view; processing the captured image frames to detect a predetermined anatomical feature of the patient having a known positional relationship with the organ; and directing the user to adjust the ultrasound probe so as to locate the organ within its field of view, based on the known positional relationship.

Abstract: An ultrasound imaging apparatus is configurable for acquiring a two-dimensional, flat image of a curved region (206) within a curved plane. The apparatus includes a transducer array for imaging the region; a processor for localizing the region with respect to the transducer array; and a processor for operating the transducer array for the imaging of the region and for projecting the region onto a two-dimensional (2D), flat image plane. Alternatively or in addition, an ultrasound imaging apparatus configurable for acquiring a 2D, flat image of a curved region within a curved plane includes a transducer array for imaging the region, the array having a face and transducer elements (142); a module for extracting a centerline of a curved object that contains the curved region; and a processor for: projecting the centerline (254) onto the face of the array;selecting, from among the elements, a set along the projection onto the face;receive beamforming, specifically using the set, to image the curved region and thereby acquire a curved image; and projecting the curved region onto a 2D, flat image plane.

Abstract: Ultrasound-based acoustic streaming for deciding whether material is fluid is dependent upon any one or more of a variety of criteria. Examples are displacement, speed (230), temporal or spatial flow variance, progressive decorrelation, slope or straightness of accumulated signal to background comparisons over time, and relative displacement to adjacent soft tissue. Echogenicity-based area identification is combinable with the above movement characteristic detection in the deciding. Fluid pool identification is performable from the area-limited acoustic streaming testing and ultrasound attenuation readings. Candidates from among the areas (210) are screenable based on specific shapes or bodily organs detected. Natural flow can be excluded from streaming detection by identification of blood vessels (206). Processing for each FAST ultrasound view (202), or for the entire procedure, is performable automatically, without need for user intervention or with user intervention to identify suspected areas.

The processing circuitry sets one of wavelengths of a plurality of light sources as a reference wavelength, normalize an intensity of light having a wavelength other than the reference wavelength, which is detected by a pair of each light irradiation unit and each optical detector, with an intensity of light having the reference wavelength, calculate a first value for each pair by nonlinear enhancement correction of a normalized light intensity, calculate a second value for the each pair by nonlinear reduction correction of an intensity of light having the reference wavelength detected by the each pair, and calculate an evaluation value based on a value obtained by multiplication of the first value and the second value for the each pair.
