The oil collecting duct (34) has at least one opening (36, 38) which during movements of the elements (32, 50) of the switch gear (30, 32, 50) coats areas within the transmission housing (4, 6) on which the bearings and teeth are situated.

The duct preferably directs a lubricant onto the gearshift fork and the sliding sleeve. Preferably, the rib directs the lubricant from the duct onto the gearshift fork and the sliding sleeve. In an alternative embodiment, at least some of the lubricant flung from the shaft, gear, and sliding sleeve contacts the rib and is directed onto the sliding sleeve and the gearshift fork. Further preferably, a projection extends from the rib to direct the lubricant onto the sliding sleeve and the gearshift fork.

The inner sides of the side legs contact appropriate side surfaces of the shift fork. The outer sides of the side legs comprise sliding planes for sliding force transmission between the shift fork and a rotating shift sleeve. To provide a large supported area between the shift fork and the shift sleeve and to provide a shift pad which is resistant against vibratory stress it is suggested to connect the two side legs to each other by connecting means which are in line with the side legs, and which are tangentially orientated with regard to the shift sleeve rotation direction and extend beyond the end of the shift fork.

A transmission casing (2) having an open front end is fastened to the rear of the front housing and includes a primary speed change mechanism (14) which is disposed between a drive shaft (12) and change shaft (13). These shafts are supported at their front end portions by the support frame and extend forwardly of this frame. An additional speed change mechanism (9) is disposed within a rear half of the front housing and comprises a primary shaft (7), rotatable output member (10) and countershaft (11). The output member is fixedly mounted on a front end portion of the drive shaft, and a rear end portion of the countershaft is journaled by a front end portion of the change shaft.
