These apparatus and methods may involve among others moving an sample substrate (108) while simulataneously detecting light transmitted from one or more sample sites (110) on the substrate (108) by sequentially tracking the sample sites (110) as they move. A stage (101), movable in a first direction, supports the substrate (108). A detector (118) detects light emanating from an examination region (102) delimited by a detection initiation position (106a) and a detection termination position (106b). An optical relay structure (122) transmit light from the examination region (102) to the detector (118). A scanning mechanism (120) simultaneously moves the optical relay structure (122) and the substrate in the first direction. The optical relay structure (122) tracks the substrate (108) between the detection initiation position (106a) and the detection termination position (106b).

    摘要: A laboratory organizer unit includes an enclosed housing with a storage area containing a plurality of racks for storing specimen containers, the racks movable throughout the storage area to permit access to all of the racks from an opening in the upper end of the storage area. A robotic transfer apparatus is operable to insert and retrieve specimen containers from selected racks in the storage area and move them between the storage area and a buffer area on the housing, as well as between the buffer area and a conveyor located adjacent the housing. The conveyor is of a type which transports specimen carriers having a specimen container therein, and the buffer area includes a rack for intermediate storage of specimen containers. The buffer area thereby permits the transfer apparatus to retrieve and load specimen containers on specimen carriers on the conveyor, while awaiting an appropriate rack to move into position in the storage area.

    摘要: There is provided a sample inspection automation system which uses a single holder as its carrier, which can supply empty holders to a distant processing unit on an extended circling path without delay, and which permits continuous operation in case of a failure through detachment of a failed part for example. The system combining a plurality of processing units has an empty holder circling path with a mechanism to circle empty holders across all processing units within the system in unicursal fashion; stoppers for retaining empty holders on the circling path; and a mechanism for controlling the stoppers on the circling path given an empty holder request from a processing unit. The empty holder circling path is made of a plurality of loops each equipped with the stopper. The sample inspection automation system thus configured supplies empty holders efficiently and simplifies system operation through fallback operation.
