A system for batch conversion of RFID tag onto a label in a liner, to produce a RFID label, the system having at least a RFID tag dispenser having a plurality of RFID tags, a liner having a plurality of labels, each label spaced apart and marked with pitch marks, a bar code printer and electrical motor to move the liner forward. The system has additionally, a pitch mark sensor and a PLC controller. The pitch mark sensor detects the position of the pitch marks of a label, then sends a signal to the RFID tag dispenser to issue a RFID tag, moving the plurality of RFID tags along towards the liner, causing the RFID tag to be embedded onto the label to produce the RFID label. The system can include a further sensor at the RFID tag dispenser. A method for embedding the RFID tag using the system is also proposed.

A tag unit comprises two RFID tags arranged nearly parallel with each other, each RFID tag including an antenna, tag transmission/reception section, and storage section. The tag unit stores different serial numbers in the respective storage sections. A tag unit reading/writing apparatus writes the different serial numbers and common data in the storage sections of the respective RFID tags, and retains the same serial numbers of the respective RFID tags in its storage section 18. The tag unit reading/writing apparatus judges validity of reading and reusability of the tag unit, when it successfully reads both of the serial numbers and the data stored in the storage sections of the respective RFID tags.

A thermal imaging paper having a laminate structure is disclosed. The laminate structure includes a thermal imaging heat sensitive substrate, an adhesive layer, and a polyfoam layer. In addition, a security feature such as an antenna and integrated circuit are provided in a position interposed between said adhesive layer and said thermal imaging heat sensitive substrate. The thermal imaging paper provides the combination of an effective thermal imaging paper product incorporating the benefits of a security feature such as a wireless memory device.

A thermal transfer media printer is disclosed. In one embodiment, the printer selectively programs RFID transponders, and then embeds them into conventional on-demand printed media between the adhesive layer and the release liner. Selective configuration of each printed media sample by addition of value-adding elements may be performed independently for each media sample, under software control during processing of each media sample format print control program. An add-on mechanism is disclosed that can be operatively attached to a conventional media printer. This allows RFID transponder labels to be selectively applied at precise locations on the printed surface of on-demand printed media in connection with existing printers.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags and labels are produced having customized variable imprinting. Sheets of paper are used to form a simple and inexpensive structure for supporting and protecting RFID transponders. The paper structure also serves as a surface for customized variable imprinting using laser printers. The structure includes a base sheet, a cover sheet upon which a laser printer applied image is formed by passing the sheet assembly through a print path of a laser printer, and a mask sheet having at least one window. The sheets form a protective pocket within the window for protecting an electronic circuit from the heat and pressure applied by the laser printer when printing an image on the cover sheet. After printing, the structure can be separated into multiple RFID tags or labels. Identification information is transmitted from the electronic circuits inside the protective pockets to an external receiver.

The present application describes an electronically powered postage stamp or mailing label and including a radio frequency identification (RFID) device and system mounted between the opposing and facing major surfaces thereof. The RFID device and system includes an integrated circuit transceiver chip which is connected to and powered by a thin flat battery cell and is operated with a thin film RF antenna, all of which are mounted in side-by-side relationship on a thin base or support layer. These thin flat components are mounted in an essentially two dimensional planar configuration well suited for incorporation into the planar structure of a postage stamp or a mailing label. In addition, the RFID transceiver chip may be replaced with an electro-optically operated IC chip using, for example, LEDs or laser diodes for the propagation of light signals to an interrogator.

A first quantity of adhesive connects the panels to one another after the panels have been folded over. A second quantity of adhesive is disposed disintermediate of the first and second panels to connect the package to the article. The package also includes an access portion connected to one of the panels by a plurality of perforations. A pull tab extends from the access portion to enhance the removal of the access portion with respect to the associated panel.
