Abstract: Systems, devices, and related methods are disclosed for electromechanical transfer printing of 2D materials disposed on one substrate to another. The printing device can be configured to transfer a 2D material from a source substrate to the target substrate by applying a combination of mechanical and electrostatic forces to facilitate electromechanical adhesion between the 2D material layer and the target substrate. Some embodiments of the printing device can effect direct transfer printing of a 2D material from a source substrate to a target substrate without the use of etchants and adhesives.

Abstract: A technique for automated online inspection of manufacture of a fibre reinforced polymer composite part during automated ribbon placement (e.g. ATL or AFP) uses interferometric inspection (e.g. OCT) to detect deviations from a planned lay-up for the part, to identify defects. On line, real-time inspection (i.e. on-the-fly) is demonstrated, and edge type defects and whole surface defects are identifiable. A sensor is demonstrated that does not extend a working envelope of the robotic head used for rib bon placement.

Abstract: A system for maintaining alignment of a press plate is provided. The system comprises: a press including a press plate, the press configured for forming a laminate comprising a decorative layer and a substrate; a camera; and a processing device configured to: retrieve a laminate design file comprising a decorative design drawing layer and a texture design drawing layer, the laminate design file illustrating the decorative design drawing layer overlaid with the texture design drawing layer; following manufacture of the laminate with the press, capture an image of the laminate with the camera; compare a portion of the captured image of the laminate to a corresponding portion of the laminate design file to determine a registration quality; based on the determined registration quality, determine a misalignment of the decorative layer with the press plate; and in response to determining the misalignment, trigger an alert.

Abstract: A device and method are provided for testing the effectiveness of an adhesive composition to adhere a sheet of material to a substrate. A connector is attached to the sheet and the adhesive is used to adhere the sheet to the substrate and permitted to cure to a selected amount. After (or even before, if desired) the adhesive cures, a load is applied to the connector, having the effect of pulling the sheet away from the substrate. The duration of the pulling and the amount of the load can be varied. If too large a dome is formed under the location of the connector, the adhesive does not pass the test. Optionally, the adhesive formulation is adjusted to make it stronger to resist such doming.

Abstract: A method to utilize the results from a series of FEM models to develop a master derivative of compliance curve. The use of the unique master curve resolves the test data variability issue caused by fitting the compliance curve individually. The analytically derived derivative of compliance curve eliminates the needs to take the derivative of compliance and therefore the derivative computation error no longer exists. By applying the existing solution and the solution as disclosed and claimed herein to the same set of the raw test data, it is found that data scatter is significantly reduced.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems and methods directed to alignment of light-emitting devices. An example method includes coupling a support substrate to a light guide assembly. The support substrate includes a plurality of elongate structures and a plurality of laser diodes. Each laser diode of the plurality of laser diodes is coupled to a respective elongate structure of the plurality of elongate structures. The method also includes causing a given laser diode of the plurality of laser diodes to emit light toward the light guide assembly. The light guide assembly includes a light guide manifold configured to guide at least a portion of the emitted light as transmitted light. The method additionally includes comparing at least one optical characteristic of the transmitted light to a desired optical characteristic and, based on the comparison, adjusting a position of the given laser diode by adjusting the respective elongate structure.

Abstract: An inspection system for detecting defects in a workpiece can include an illumination source for illuminating a first section of the workpiece with a patterned light, wherein the illumination source does not illuminate a second section of the workpiece. The inspection system further includes a feedback camera for imaging the first section and producing a first output, and a background camera for imaging the second section and producing a second output. A processor compares the first output with the second output, and a controller alters the patterned light that is output by the illumination source based on the comparison. This feedback control continues until the background is suitably homogeneous or camouflaged compared to the defect, such that the visibility and/or detectability of the defect is increased.

Abstract: A vacuum system for film lamination, including a vacuum chamber module, a film-pressing module, a substrate susceptor module and a hot-plate heating module, is disclosed, wherein the film-pressing module includes a film-pressing platen, and the substrate susceptor module includes a substrate susceptor supported by a spring-loaded mechanism. During a film-lamination process, the film-pressing platen is actuated to move downwards to attach a laminating film onto a substrate, and the substrate susceptor is actuated to move downwards and finally rest on the hot-plate heating module. Therefore an adhesive glue disposed between the laminating film and the substrate can be thermally cured. After completing the film-lamination process, the film-pressing platen is actuated upwards so that the substrate susceptor also is actuated to move upwards to its initial position by a restoring force exerted by the spring-loaded mechanism. In such manner, the laminating film can be properly bonded to the substrate to avoid lamination defects such as air bubbles and to improve adhesion strength.

Abstract: A device of adjusting registration of plastic flooring contains a rolling unit and an adjusting unit. The rolling unit includes a press roller set having a first press roller, a second press roller, a third press roller, and a fourth press roller. The rolling unit delivers a substrate, a printing layer, and an anti-abrasion layer to the press roller set so as to be pressed together by the third and fourth press rollers. The printing layer has a pattern area, and the third press roller has a pressing pattern section. A first end of each of the third and fourth press rollers is connected on a fixed segment, a second end of each of the third and fourth press rollers is connected on a movable segment, and the adjusting unit is fixed outside the movable segment. The adjusting unit includes at least one power source and a movable rod.
