    摘要: Disclosed is a container especially adapted for use in storing and heating comestibles intended for final preparation in microwave ovens. The container comprises a molded pulp tray, having a plastic film, preferably a polyester, adhered to its product-contacting surfaces. The container exhibits high strength and excellent product protection, but yet is low in cost. The process for making the container takes advantage of the porous nature of the pulp tray by drawing a vacuum directly through the tray to draw a film of heated plastic into adhering contact. The film is preferably extruded as the tray, carried in a vacuum mold, passes directly under the extruder.

    摘要: A tubular plastic container having a molecularly oriented sidewall portion is made by bringing the peripheral portion of a solid blank in engagement with the shoulder portion of a die, introducing the blank into a cavity of the die while compressing with a first and second plungers, such that in the former stage of the introduction, the speed is relatively low and the pressure is relatively high, and then the speed is increased at a controlled rate and the pressure is decreased, thereby forming a hollow molded piece, and then expanding the molded piece to bringing the sidewall portion thereof into contact with the inner surface of the cavity. In the similar manner a tubular plastic container having a sidewall portion formed with thick wall portions axially extending and having a relatively large wall thickness and a large curvature, and thin wall portions axially extending and having a relatively small wall thickness and a small curvature which are formed alternately in the circumferential direction, is made by using the second plunger having recesses corresponding to the thick wall portions and having open edge portions.

    摘要: An article and a method are disclosed for substantially removing surfaces defects that are attendant with plastic blanks formed by cutting out squares from sheet stock material that are subsequently forged by means of non-melt, high pressure or solid-phase forming of preforms and thereafter thermoforming said preforms into containers. The blank itself comprises a tabular body having a pair of major faces located substantially parallel to one another, minor faces integrally formed and extending outwardly from said major faces, said minor faces presenting a smooth surface commensurate to that of said major faces, and a vertical portion integrally formed with said minor faces and defining an outer peripheral band or line having an unsmooth surface. A method of forming said plastic blank comprises providing a sheet of polymeric material, pressing lines of demarkation upon said sheet, severing said sheet within said lines to separate and cut said sheet into individual blank, whereby each blank is formed having a smooth surface provided by said pressing step and a rough surface provided by said severing step, thereafter forging said blank to a predetermined preform and reforming said preform to a container free of any imperfection.

    摘要: A preformed plastic structure for making open-mouth plastic containers is disclosed. The structure is an oriented preform having a base defined by an inner circular portion and an outer circular portion situated parallel to the outer circular portion and spaced therefrom. The radius of the outer circular portion is larger than the radius of the inner circular portion. The preform is further provided with an outwardly extending annular member integral with the base and tapering therefrom, the member forming an angle of between about 2.degree. to about 30.degree. from the base, and a flange integral with the annular member and extending radially outwardly and having a cross-section configuration of substantially the rim of the finished container. The preform is well suited for forming multilayered containers.
