摘要: A splice tape for a thermally imaging web. A polymer tape layer, which is thin and strong, has an adhesive layer on its lower side and a thermally imaging composition on its upper side. The thermally imaging composition is similar to the thermal imaging layer on the web. When two ends of a web are joined, the splice tape is placed thereon to join the two ends. The splice tape may be printed at the same time as the web. The thinness of the splice allows the printing to be consistent at the splice, minimizing blank areas.

摘要: The invention teaches continuous process for rapidly drying a population of pressure sensitive microcapsules. The process comprises the steps of a) preparing a slurry comprising pressure-sensitive microcapsules dispersed in an aqueous carrier solution and encapsulating a non-solid core material; b) providing a pulse combustor having a means for generating a pulsating flow of hot gases, the pulse combustor having an associated combustion chamber with inlet means for introducing fuel and combustion air to the combustion chamber whereby the combination of the pulse combustor and the combustion chamber generate a pulsating flow of hot gases, the pulse combustor having an outlet means for discharging the pulsating flow of hot gases, and a material feed introduction chamber connected proximate the outlet means of the combustion chamber; c) inputting the slurry of microcapsules into the material feed introduction chamber; d) converting the slurry of microcapsules to dried microcapsules in a drying chamber communicating with the combustion chamber through the outlet means, the drying chamber receiving the microcapsule slurry fed into the material feed introduction chamber and the pulsating flow of hot gases; and, e) collecting in a collection assembly associated with the drying chamber the microcapsules dried in the drying chamber, whereby the collected microcapsules are substantially free of breakage.

摘要: Disclosed are encapsulating methods and encapsulated products. A payload material may be encapsulated within a wall material. The carrier material and payload material form a combination that is at least substantially solid at room temperature but that is sufficiently fluid at milling temperature to permit milling and subsequent encapsulation. The payload material may be, for instance, a bitter tasting material. In some embodiments, the microcapsules will serve a taste masking function. In other embodiments, the microcapsules may be used where a slow release of the payload material is desired.

摘要: The invention teaches novel process steps for the rapid high yield manufacture of diphenylamines of the formula wherein R1 is selected from hydrogen, alkyl, and aryl; wherein each R2 and R3 is the same or different and each is independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, aralkyl, dialkylamino, alkylarylamino and substituted or unsubstituted aryl, the substituents on aryl being each independently selected from alkyl (C1-C8), alkoxy (C1-C8), aroxy, aralkoxy and halogen; wherein n and m are each independently an integer from 1 to 5. Diphenylamines are key intermediates for the production of leuco dyes used in pressure-sensitive and heat-sensitive imaging systems. The process in at least one embodiment comprises reacting at elevated temperature an aryl halide with an aromatic amine in an organic solvent and aqueous alkaline solution and optionally in some embodiments, phase-transfer agent, followed by addition of catalytic amounts of bis[tri(t-butylphosphine)]palladium at a suitable temperature to rapidly form diphenylamine.

摘要: The invention teaches a paper substrate having a laser treated area which has benefits for anti copy, copy deterrence and/or copy detection applications. The laser treatment may be in the form of a dense array of a plurality of microperforations which may or may not be visible to the naked eye or in form of fine graphics on the paper surface incorporated via partial ablations. The laser treated area serves as an authenticated field. In one aspect, the authentication field when copied on reprographic equipment reproduces as a field of dark separated dots. The authentication field optionally can take the form of various shapes including alphanumeric characters or other patterns. In an alternate aspect the laser treated area is an area of laser-formed partial ablations creating a synthetic watermark.

摘要: A thermally image record material such as a secure document is taught which is susceptible to rapid and bulk destruction of confidential or sensitive information by microwave or high energy absorption. The thermally responsive record material comprises a heat sensitive composition applied onto a substrate having provided thereon in proximity, to the heat sensitive composition as a subcoat or undercoat or back side coating, a layer of particles of an energy receiver material such as a microwave susceptor. Sensitive information imprinted on the record material can be readily destroyed by microwave heating.

摘要: The present invention is a container sleeve or alternatively a pressure sensitive tape having coated thereon or therein an energy receiver material which heats in response to microwave energy. The container sleeve or pressure sensitive tape substrate can be advantageously employed with conventional thermally imaging record materials in the form of a label, such as used on prescriptions, to facilitate preserving patient information confidentiality by obscuring information when contacted with microwave energy.
