摘要: Systems and methods for providing opportunistic vehicle air brake system pressurization are disclosed. Vehicle air tanks used within an air brake system are pressurized during a time a battery charging status is satisfied. For example, such air tanks may be pressurized via an air compressor at a time during which the vehicle is electrically connected to a power source other than a battery of the vehicle. An example of such a power source may include an electrical charger, such as an electric vehicle charging station, or an electric generator during a regenerative braking event. The air tanks may also be pressurized by using a battery to energize the air compressor, based on the battery being charged above a predetermined threshold.

摘要: A method of autonomously backing a vehicle (e.g., a tractor unit) to a trailer (e.g., a semi-trailer) comprising a trailer-mounted coupling device (e.g., a kingpin). The method includes determining, by an autonomous backing module of the vehicle, a target corresponding to the trailer-mounted coupling device; determining, by the autonomous backing module, a path to maneuver the vehicle to the target and align a vehicle-mounted coupling device (e.g., a fifth wheel) with the trailer-mounted coupling device, determining, by the autonomous backing module, commands to components of the vehicle to autonomously control the vehicle to maneuver along the determined path to the target, and transmitting, by the autonomous backing module, the commands to the components of the vehicle (e.g., a braking control module, a steering control module, and/or a torque request module). Suitably configured vehicles are also described.

摘要: Systems and methods for modulating power provided to a heating element of a vehicle exhaust system is provided. One system includes a controller controlling a switch, and an alternator having a first field terminal input, wherein the first field terminal input is connected to the switch. The system further includes a heating element connected to at least an output of the alternator. The controller is configured to determine a power demand for the electric heating element and modulate the first field terminal input to cause the alternator to provide power to the heating element according to the power demand.

摘要: A brake or a clutch includes a central shaft, an output-side threaded driver, an output brake plate, an input brake plate, and an input-side threaded driver. The output-side threaded driver and the input-side threaded driver are rotationally locked to the central shaft, such as by splines. The output-side threaded driver is threaded to the output brake plate and the input-side threaded driver is threaded to the input brake plate. The output brake plate is threaded to the input brake plate in a direction opposite the threaded engagement of the drivers to the brake plates. The brake or clutch may include two stator plates and three friction discs located between the output brake plate and the input brake plate.

摘要: Controlling exhaust after-treatment in a heavy-duty motor vehicle includes operating a diesel engine of a heavy-duty truck such that the diesel engine generates an exhaust gas flow that enters an exhaust after-treatment system of the heavy-duty truck, the exhaust after-treatment system including a selective catalytic reduction system, measuring a level of NOx gases in the exhaust gas flow downstream of the selective catalytic reduction system, and controlling a diesel exhaust fluid injector upstream of the selective catalytic reduction system to inject diesel exhaust fluid into the exhaust gas flow upstream of the selective catalytic reduction system at an injection rate that is based on the measured level of NOx gases.

摘要: Generally described, an articulated wheel fairing system for a vehicle having a steering system with a neutral steering input and a non-neutral steering input is provided. The articulated wheel fairing system provides clearance to the steer tire and wheel of the vehicle during non-neutral steering input, such as when the vehicle is turning at slower road speeds. The wheel fairing system generally includes an articulating fairing panel configured to cover at least a portion of the steer wheel, where the fairing panel movable from a first position adjacent to the steer wheel, such as when the vehicle is traveling at higher road speeds, to a second position outwardly from the first position. The wheel fairing system includes a mechanical linkage or actuator coupled to the fairing panel and the vehicle and configured to move the frame between the first position and the second position relative to the vehicle.

摘要: A lean-burn internal combustion engine and an exhaust aftertreatment system having an oxidation catalyst are described. A controller determines a fueling rate and a mass flowrate of the exhaust gas feedstream. An inlet temperature of the exhaust gas feedstream upstream of the oxidation catalyst is determined via the first temperature sensor, and an in-use outlet temperature of the exhaust gas feedstream is determined downstream of the oxidation catalyst via the second temperature sensor. An expected outlet temperature from the oxidation catalyst is determined based upon the inlet temperature, the fueling rate, and the mass flowrate of the exhaust gas feedstream. The oxidation catalyst is evaluated based upon the expected outlet temperature and the in-use outlet temperature.
