摘要: A method of coating a substrate with a white molecular coating. A colloidal based primer is prepared having on a mass basis between 30-40% suspensions of fine-sized spherical particles of nonporous silica dispersed in liquid phase. The primer is applied to the substrate and allowed to dry. A molecular adsorber coating is prepared by treating a zeolite with a colloidal silica binder thereby providing a treated pigment having a mass ratio of the colloidal silica to the zeolite is in a range of 2.0 to 2.6, then processing the treated pigment into a powder thereby facilitating sprayability and then mixing said treated zeolite with a colloidal solution containing silica. The coating is then sprayed onto the primer and allowed to dry. The resultant coating provides adequate bond stability and strength necessary for flight applications within an environment for vacuum of space applications.

摘要: System and methods for risk and risk precursor identification in commercial aviation operations according to various aspects of the present invention operate in conjunction with a source of operation flight track data, a set of risk determination models containing instructions on how to process a set of received operational flight track data, a risk determination API for activating one or more risk models to process the set of received operational flight track data, and a user interface for communicating with the risk determination API. Each risk model may be trained to analyze flight track data to identify a particular type of risk precursor or identify a type of risk and any precursors that led to the risk. Processed results and identified risk precursors are forwarded to the user interface and displayed to allow users to quickly distinguish between nominal conditions for an aircraft and conditions with elevated levels of risk.

摘要: Various embodiments provide ice mitigating surface coatings and methods for applying ice mitigating surface coatings. Various embodiment ice mitigating surface coatings may be formed by hydrolysis of one or more substituted n-alkyldimethylalkoxysilanes terminated with functionalities having the following characteristics with respect to water: 1) non-polar interactions; 2) hydrogen bonding through donor and acceptor interactions; or 3) hydrogen bonding through acceptor interactions only. The substituted n-alkyldimethylalkoxysilanes of the various embodiments may include methyl terminated species, hydroxyl terminated species, ethylene glycol terminated species, and methoxyethylene glycol terminated species. Various embodiment ice mitigating surface coatings may be applied to metal surfaces, such as aluminum surfaces. Various embodiment substituted n-alkyldimethylalkoxysilanes may have an aliphatic chain that is saturated and liner or branched or that is partially unsaturated and liner or branched.

摘要: A multi-spectral imaging system utilizing tunable optics is disclosed. Various disclosed systems include a tunable optical filter coupled to a broadband imaging system. The tunable optical filter allows discrete infrared wavelengths to pass to the broadband imaging system so that monochromatic infrared images of a scene may be captured. An image processing system may process selected monochromatic infrared images by using a ratio technique to generate an emissivity-independent thermal image of the scene. The tunable optical filter may also be used to adjust a quality factor and control an amount of radiated energy that is passed to an image sensor of the broadband imaging system thereby acting as an aperture to account for both low and high radiance portions of the scene.

摘要: An aircraft wing configuration for a vertical or a short take-off and landing aircraft having a plurality of propeller-blown wings mounted at different longitudinal locations along a fuselage of the vertical take-off and landing aircraft, producing two or more lifting surfaces, fixed at a predetermined acute wing angle greater than 0° and substantially less than 90° relative to a horizontal plane, and having a plurality of flaps disposed behind the wings. The configuration has a plurality of propellers distributed in front of the plurality of wings producing two or more lifting surfaces and mounted such that the wings are externally blown by forced airstreams from the propellers. The propellers produce distributed thrust components, and the plurality of flaps are in the forced airstreams of the propellers when one or more of the flaps is in an extended position.

摘要: A statistical audibility prediction (SAP) method for predicting the audibility of a signal over time at a listening location, the signal from a signal source in the presence of a concurrent masking sound or masker from a masker source. The method includes receiving, via a processor over a plurality of auditory channels, a specific loudness of the signal and masker at the listening location. The method includes calculating for each auditory channel a standard deviation of a distribution of the specific loudness of the signal and masker, and calculating, via the processor, corresponding channel-specific detectability indices (d′t,i) for each auditory channel as a function of their standard deviations. The corresponding channel-specific detectability indices are then summed to produce a total detectability index (d′t), which may be output as an electronic signal that indicates the predicted audibility vs. time, e.g., to a downstream process and/or system or offline.

摘要: Methods and systems are described for delivering psychophysiological self-regulation training in a virtual, augmented, and/or mixed reality environment that simulates a social situation, such as one involving conflict. A user (e.g., a trainee) may interface with a training computing system directly or via an avatar that may interact with other characters in the simulation who may be programmed at one or more levels of threat to or cooperation with the trainee. The system may provide feedback to the trainee regarding their cognitive and emotional states. The feedback may be designed to encourage them to develop the ability to respond in future real environments with appropriately effective states, where the feedback may take the form of the behavior of the characters, with the trainee's interaction based on their effective states being rewarded by desirable character behavior and the trainee's ineffective states being penalized by undesirable character behavior.

In some examples, the methods include ejecting atoms from a molten metal sputtering material onto a heated crystalline substrate and growing a single epitaxial layer on the substrate from the ejected atoms, where the atoms are ejected with sufficient energy that the grown epitaxial layer has at least a partial rhombohedral lattice, and wherein the crystalline substrate is heated to a temperature of about 600 degrees Celsius or less, or about 500 degrees or less. Other aspects relate to materials, such as a material including a single epitaxial layer on top of a crystalline substrate, the layer including one or more semiconductor materials and having at least a partial rhombohedral lattice, or a substantially rhombohedral lattice.

摘要: A spacecraft capable of generating an artificial gravity environment comprises frame with a circular track with at least two modules traveling on the track. The two modules are configured to engage the first track opposite the first module to minimize mass imbalance, and a balancing system for the first and second modules configured to mass balance the first and second modules relative to each other. The frame itself does not rotate, and may have other mission supporting structures attached, including storage and supply modules, and observational modules, and spacecraft hangars and spacecraft docking modules. A method of operating a spacecraft to generate artificial gravity in a habitation module comprises operating a frame in space, propelling first and second habitation modules about the frame to generate artificial gravity environments in the modules, and mass balancing the first module relative to the second module to maintain balance of the spacecraft.
