摘要: A method of detecting an analyte in a sample, comprises the steps of: a) contacting the sample with a first ligand which binds specifically to the analyte and which is immobilised either on, or in the vicinity of, a sensor; b) prior to step (a) contacting the sample, or subsequent to step (a) contacting the immobilised analyte, with a material including a second ligand which binds specifically to the analyte, the material being activatable to form a polymerisation initiator; and c) activating the material; wherein the polymerisation initiator interacts with the sensor to change its physical properties, which causes a change in the optical or acoustic properties of the sensor.

摘要: A method of making a holographic device (4) comprises the steps of: forming a heterogeneous support medium (2) having at least two regions (1) which are heterogeneous; placing the heterogeneous support medium under recording conditions, e.g. in a liquid X, which are selected to change one or more physical properties of the heterogeneous support medium, wherein the extent or nature of the change in the physical property or physical properties is different in at least two of the heterogeneous regions; recording a holographic image in the heterogeneous support medium while it is under recording conditions; and removing the heterogeneous support medium from recording conditions. Such a device can be used for security and authentication.

摘要: The invention relates to the preparation of a hydrogel surface useful in the formation and manipulation of arrays of molecules, particularly polynucleotides and to the chemical modification of these and other arrays. In particular, the invention relates to a method of preparing a hydrogel immobilised to a solid support comprising polymerising on the support a mixture of a first comonomer which is acrylamide, methacrylamide, hydroxyethyl methacrylate or N-vinyl pyrrolidinone and a second comonomer which is a functionalised acrylamide or acrylate.
