Methods of reducing the fluid loss from a wellbore servicing fluid include combining a terpolymer with the wellbore servicing fluid to reduce the fluid loss from the fluid, followed by displacing the fluid into a wellbore. In an embodiment, the following monomers are used to make the terpolymer: from about 75 wt. % to about 95 wt. % of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid or an alkali salt thereof; from about 3 wt. % to about 15 wt. % of acrylamide; and from about 3 wt. % to about 15 wt. % of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, all weight percentages being based on a total weight of the monomers. The wellbore servicing fluid may comprise water or an aqueous salt solution such as a formate solution. The wellbore servicing fluid may also comprise clay such as montmorillonite and attapulgite clay.

This invention relates to a low toxicity drilling mud oil. In some embodiments, the fluid loss characteristic of the drilling mud oil as used in a borehole can be reduced to less than 0.2 ml/30 minutes by adding about 0.05% to about 2.0% by weight of a butadiene-styrene-butadiene (BSB) block copolymer having about 20% by weight or more styrene.

The sulfonated, oxidized rubber composition, preferably a composition containing such sulfonated, oxidized rubber composition, can be used as an additive in or for asphalt. The neutralized, sulfonated, oxidized rubber composition, preferably a composition comprising such neutralized, sulfonated, oxidized rubber composition, can be used for oil field applications such as preventing the loss of fluids used during such oil field applications. A process of preparing such compositions includes contacting a rubber composition, such as butyl rubber in the form of waste tire particles, with an oxidizing agent to provide an oxidized rubber composition. The oxidized rubber composition is then contacted with a sulfur-containing acid to provide a sulfonated, oxidized rubber composition. The sulfonated, oxidized rubber composition is then contacted with a base to provide a neutralized, sulfonated, oxidized rubber composition.

A stable liquid suspension composition comprising a liquid carrier, a solid fatty acid or a salt thereof, and a solid particulate is disclosed wherein said liquid carrier is selected from the group consisting of oils, olefins, terpenes, glycols, esters, ethers, alcohols, and combinations of any two or more thereof and said liquid carrier, solid fatty acid or salt thereof, and solid particulate are each present in said composition in a stabilizing amount sufficient to produce a stable liquid suspension. Also disclosed is a stable liquid composition comprising a liquid carrier, an oil-soluble polymer, and a solid particulate wherein said liquid carrier is selected from the group consisting of liquid alkenes, terpenes, esters, and combinations of any two or more thereof and said liquid carrier, oil-soluble polymer, and solid particulate are each present in said composition in a stabilizing amount sufficient to effect the formation of a stable liquid suspension.

A composition useful for viscosifying a water-based fluid is provided which comprises a polymer such as guar gum, a metal compound such as an aluminum compound. The composition can also contain a polymer such as guar gum, a magnesium compound such as magnesium oxide, a metal aluminate such as sodium aluminate or a metal compound such as an aluminum compound, and optionally a fatty acid or salts thereof. The water-based fluid can also contain a clay such as bentonite. A process for viscosifying a water-based fluid and for substantially retaining the viscosity of the water-based fluid is also provided which comprises contacting the fluid with the composition described herein. Also disclosed is a process for controlling water loss of a water-based drilling fluid wherein the process comprises contacting the fluid with the composition described herein.
