The electron beam irradiator comprises: a vacuum chamber having a beam irradiation window formed longitudinally in an outer periphery of the vacuum chamber; a cathode placed centrally and longitudinally inside the vacuum chamber, and having a field emitter tip formed on the cathode, corresponding to the beam irradiation window; and a high voltage supply placed at one end of the vacuum chamber, and adapted to apply high voltage toward the cathode. The electron beam irradiation can be made in a wide area without using an electromagnet as well as in a high current density without using a heater such as a filament or an additional power supply, thereby to ensure a simplified structure as well as a reduced size.

A white light source using carbon nanotubes and a fabrication method thereof are provided. The white light source includes a metal film which is formed on a lower substrate and used as a cathode, a catalytic metal film formed on the metal film, carbon nanotubes which are vertically aligned on the catalytic metal film for emission of electrons in an applied electric field, spacers mounted on the catalytic metal film, and a transparent upper substrate which has a transparent electrode for an anode and a fluorescent body on the transparent electrode, and which is mounted on the spacers such that the fluorescent body faces the carbon nanotubes. The catalytic metal film is composed of isolated nano-sized catalytic metal particles. The carbon nanotubes are grown from each of the catalytic metal particles to be vertically aligned on the substrate by chemical vapor deposition.

Surface field electron emitters using a carbon nanotube yarn and a method of fabricating the same are disclosed. To fabricate the carbon nanotube yarn for use in fabrication of simple and efficient carbon nanotube field electron emitters, the method performs densification of the carbon nanotube yarn during rotation of a plying unit and heat treatment of the carbon nanotube yarn that has passed through the plying unit without using organic or inorganic binders or polymer pastes. The method fabricates the carbon nanotube yarn with excellent homogeneity and reproducibility through a simple process. The carbon nanotube yarn-based surface field electron emitters can be applied to various light emitting devices.
