摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus (100) and method for cooling and recovering heat energy from power cables and/or transformers. The apparatus (100) comprises a first conduit (102) in thermal contact with at least one electrical power cable (104) and/or at least one transformer, a heat transfer device (106) coupled to the first conduit (102), fluid circulating means (112) and a heating circuit (114) coupled to the heat transfer device (106) for interfacing with an external heating system (126), such as those typically installed in domestic or commercial premises (128). When in use, the circulating means (112) is operable to circulate a fluid through the first conduit (102) to thereby enable the heat transfer device (106) to recover at least a portion of the heat energy of the cable (104) and/or transformer from the heated fluid for subsequent reuse by an external heating system (126) via the heating circuit (114). The apparatus and method are found to be particularly suited for the recovery and reuse of wasted heat from subterranean high-tension power cables and above surface substation transformers, while cooling the equipment to improve operational performance and lifetime.

摘要: A breakaway cable for an electric vehicle charging system comprises a female portion connected to a first cable and a male portion connected to a second cable. The female portion comprises a tang located at an end of the female portion. The male portion is configured to receive the female portion and comprises a catch and a lip, both the catch and the lip being located on an inner surface of the male portion. Upon engagement of the tang with the lip, the tang is disengagable from the lip by application of force. The tang is disengagable from the catch by further application of force.

摘要: A system and method for load balancing a plurality of servers is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, a plurality of servers in a video-on-demand or other multi-server system are divided into one or more load-balancing groups. Each server preferably maintains state information concerning other servers in its load-balancing group including information concerning content maintained and served by each server in the group. Changes in a server's content status or other state information are preferably proactively delivered to other servers in the group. When a content request is received by any server in a load-balancing group, it evaluates the request in accordance with a specified algorithm to determine whether it should deliver the requested content itself or redirect the request to another server in its group. In a preferred embodiment, this determination is a function of information in the server's state table.

摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for recovering the core (108) of a subterranean sheathed electrical cable (106), while minimising the impact on the surrounding environment. The apparatus comprises a ram (102) operable to exert a pushing force on the core of a length of the cable, a plurality of linkages, each linkage being configured to be insertable into the cable along its length under the action of the ram to displace the core relative to an outer sheath of the cable, and a puller operable (104) to exert a pulling force on the core to thereby facilitate removal of the displaced core from the outer sheath by action of the pushing/pulling forces. The apparatus and method are found to be particularly suited to the recovery of high-tension copper core cables, while enabling any hydrocarbon (e.g. oil) impregnated inner sheathing to be controllably disposed of without hazard to the environment.

摘要: A system and method are disclosed for upgrading both hardware and software components of a digital media server without disrupting media delivery services. In a preferred embodiment, the present system and method employ an object-oriented model that allows system servers to remain fully operational while software upgrades at both the operating system and application levels are installed. Additionally, the system and method use redundant or partitionable programmable logic devices to perform firmware upgrades without disrupting media delivery services.
