    摘要: A Thin film electrode for a rechargeable (secondary) battery is prepared by electron beam deposition of LiMn.sub.2 O.sub.4, LiCoO.sub.2, or LiNiO.sub.2 on a smooth, amorphous substrate surface and in situ annealing of the deposited lithium composition at a temperature below about 500.degree. C. The amorphous nature of the substrate surface prevents epitaxial growth or ordered orientation of the minute composition crystallites thus formed. The finely granular structure of the resulting electrode thin film presents abundant surface area that enables a 4V battery to provide current densities in the range of 500 microamps/cm.sup.2. The low annealing temperature enables formation of the electrode structure and subsequent battery assembly directly upon semiconductor devices and integrated circuitry.

    摘要: A Li-ion and/or Li-ion polymer battery, comprised of a plurality of battery cells, each battery cell comprised of at least one cathode section, an anode section and at least one separator layer disposed between the anode section and the at least one cathode section. A first, planar metal mesh layer is disposed within the anode section, the first metal mesh layer having a coplanar tab extending beyond the separator layer to define a negative lead. A second, planar metal mesh layer is disposed within the cathode section, the second metal mesh layer having a coplanar tab extending beyond the separator layer to form a positive lead. A plurality of reinforcing bands are wrapped around the peripheral edges of the battery cells securing the battery cells together.

    摘要: A system for etching superconducting films of yttrium-barium-copper-oxide (YBa.sub.2 Cu.sub.3 O.sub.2) is disclosed. The etchant comprises ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid of varying concentrations in water or a water/glycerol mixture. The described etchant permits superconducting transition temperatures to remain unaffected within the experimental accuracy of 1.degree. C. Additionally, films do not require reoxygenation after etching, and the etchant is suitable for micropatterning using standard photolithography.

    摘要: A battery is comprised of a rigid, plastic housing defining a generally rectangular interior cavity, and an essentially flat interior surface. A battery rechargeable electric cell has a flexible outer packaging, an electrically conductive thermoset adhesive film, and is contained within the cavity. The cell is generally rectangular in shape and has a flat outer surface and two leads extending through the housing. The cell has a normal configuration when experiencing normal operating conditions, and an abnormal configuration when experiencing abnormal operating conditions. A membrane switch is disposed between the flat interior surface of the housing and the flat outer surface of the cell. The switch has at least one lead extending through the housing. The switch has a first electrical condition when the cell has the normal configuration and a second electrical condition when the cell has the abnormal configuration. The membrane switch is selected to have a predetermined operating pressure related to the battery size and shape.
