Abstract:
An apparatus for continuously monitoring a photopolymerization reaction in real time by optical pyrometry includes a housing having a chamber; a sample mount that may be disposed within the chamber; a light source for supplying light to induce a photopolymerization reaction in a monomer sample disposed on the sample mount; and an optical pyrometer that may be attached to the housing for measuring temperature of the monomer sample. The temperature of the sample with respect to time is used to monitor progress of the reaction. Another apparatus for monitoring a photopolymerization reaction combines optical pyrometry and infrared spectroscopy. The apparatus includes a sample mount disposed in a beam of an infrared spectrometer a light source for supplying light to induce a photopolymerization reaction in a monomer sample disposed on the sample mount and an optical pyrometer for measuring temperature of the monomer sample.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a proton-conducting electrolyte membrane obtainable by a process comprising the steps: A) swelling a polymer film with a liquid comprising a vinyl-containing sulphonic acid and B) polymerising the vinyl-containing sulphonic acid present in liquid introduced in step A). A membrane according to the invention is very versatile on account of its excellent chemical and thermal properties and may be used, in particular, as a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) in what are known as PEM fuel cells.
Abstract:
The invention herein is curable adhesive and sealant compositions and a non-aqueous solvent free process for producing such compositions which comprise a mono-ol, tackifying resin, and a monohydroxylated epoxidized polydiene polymer which is comprised of at least two polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon monomers wherein at least one is a diene monomer which yields unsaturation suitable for epoxidation and wherein the polymer contains from 0.1 to 7.0 milliequivalents of epoxy per gram of polymer. The process involves mixing the components together with a photoinitiator which is selected from the group consisting of diaryl, especially diaryliodonium, salts characterized by the general formula: ##STR1## where Y is ##STR2## where R is hydrogen, aryl, alkyl, or an alkylhalide; n is an integer of at least 1, Z is I, Cl, or Br, preferably I, and X is a complex metal halide anion or a complex halide anion of a strong protonic acid.
