摘要： An apparatus for, and a method of, reproducing digital video signals at a varied speed, adapted to insert information about the maximum coded lengths of digital video signals in slices resulting from encoding and compressing of the digital video signals by a digital video signal transmitter so that the inserted information can be transmitted together with the compressed digital video signal, and to insert slice condition information and slice length information in slice headers of slices upon reproducing the digital video signals recorded on a tape at a varied speed so that the inserted slice condition information and slice length information can be deformatted together with the slices. The apparatus and method is thus capable of decoding the digital video signals for macroblocks preceding the macroblock involving a discontinuous interval based on the maximum coded length information, slice condition information and slice length information.

摘要： Variable length-adaptive image data compression method and apparatus. The statistical characteristic of a frame containing a number of blocks is extracted by blocks and then encoded, so as to achieve a bit distribution for each block. An optimum quantizer is selected which can compress data to a quantity most approximating to the quantity of bits allocated to the AC coefficient of each block. The present invention adopts a variable length coding for providing a high picture quality, but limits the number of classes containing the same number of blocks to a number (for example, 4) predetermined based on the statistical characteristic of input image data. Accordingly, it is possible to easily control the quantity of data and to converge errors into blocks.

摘要： An apparatus and method for controlling recording and reproduction in a video cassette tape recorder are disclosed apparatus is capable of, in a recording mode, separating specific data for speed-varied reproduction from compressed digital video signals, recording them on designated tracks, recording position information of the designated tracks on a control track by an index head or recording position information of recording position-synchronized blocks at the starting portions of the designated tracks recorded with the specific data, and in a speed-varied reproduction mode, controlling a capstan servo speed so as to maintain the travel of a magnetic tape at a normal speed and periodically or non-periodically accelerate or decelerate it where specific data for varied-speed have been recorded periodically or non-periodically on predetermined portions of tracks, thereby making heads travel repeatedly at the normal speed and the high speed and thereby detect continuously the specific tracks for varied-speed. A repeatability of reproduced video at a varied speed is obtained without any deterioration in picture quality, because of recording of the specific data for speed-varied reproduction and the continuous detection of the specific data in the speed-varied reproduction.
