    摘要: Exemplary apparatus, arrangement and method can be provided for obtaining information associated with an anatomical structure or sample using optical microscopy. A radiation can include first electromagnetic radiation(s) directed to an anatomical sample and at least one second electromagnetic radiation directed to a reference. A wavelength of the radiation can vary over time, and the wavelength can be shorter than approximately 1150 nm. An interference can be detected between third and forth radiations associated with the first, second and fourth radiation, respectively. At least one image corresponding to portion(s) of the sample can be generated using data associated with the interference. Source arrangement(s) can be provided which is configured to provide an electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength that varies over time. A period of a variation of the wavelength of the first electromagnetic radiation(s) can be shorter than 1 millisecond, and the wavelength can be shorter than approximately 1150 nm.

    摘要: Devices, arrangements, endoscopes, catheters and methods adapted to propagate at least one electro-magnetic radiation are provided. In particular, a waveguide apparatus specifically configured may be utilized to split the electro-magnetic radiation into a plurality of beams that are intended to illuminate a biological sample, and impart a unique associated characteristic unto each of the beams. The beams may be intended to illuminate a biological sample at distinct locations, and impart a unique associated characteristic unto each of the beams. In addition, a control apparatus may be provided which is configured to control at least one of the fibers and which can be input to the fibers so as to modify the unique associated characteristics of the beams being propagated along the fibers, and thereby modify the characteristics of the distinct locations on the sample.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for increasing the sensitivity in the detection of optical coherence tomography and low coherence interferometry (“LCI”) signals by detecting a parallel set of spectral bands, each band being a unique combination of optical frequencies. The LCI broad bandwidth source is split into N spectral bands. The N spectral bands are individually detected and processed to provide an increase in the signal-to-noise ratio by a factor of N. Each spectral band is detected by a separate photo detector and amplified. For each spectral band the signal is band pass filtered around the signal band by analog electronics and digitized, or, alternatively, the signal may be digitized and band pass filtered in software. As a consequence, the shot noise contribution to the signal is reduced by a factor equal to the number of spectral bands. The signal remains the same. The reduction of the shot noise increases the dynamic range and sensitivity of the system.
