摘要: Inorganic anions nitrate and nitrite influence metabolic rate and glucose homeostasis. Infusion of nitrite iv caused an acute drop in resting energy expenditure (oxygen consumption) and nitrate, when given perorally, caused a drop in oxygen consumption during exercise and a depression of the increase in blood glucose observed after an oral glucose tolerance test. The doses of nitrate and nitrite did not cause any detectable change in methemoglobin levels of blood. Also, nitrate and nitrite did not alter lactate levels in blood. This discovery provides useful treatments to regulate the energy expenditure and glucose homeostasis of a mammal by administration of inorganic nitrite and/or nitrate.

摘要: It has surprisingly been found that nasal NO release is greatly increased by the presence of a an oscillating airflow in healthy subjects. Accordingly, a device comprising means for generating and/or maintaining an oscillating airflow is described and suggested for use in the diagnosis of a condition of the upper airways of a human. The invention also encompasses method wherein the concentration and/or flow of at least one gaseous component in nasally exhaled air is determined and recorded in the presence and absence of an oscillating airflow acting on the upper airways or parts thereof.

摘要: The present invention restores the normal low-dose flushing of the lower airways with air from the upper airways, containing nitric oxide (NO) and possible other biologically active agents by aspiration of air from the upper airways and introducing said air in the inspiratory airflow of a ventilator. The inventive apparatus and method is free from the risks associated with traditional administration of exogenous NO.

摘要: Device and method for collecting endogenous gaseous nitric oxide (NO), in the urogenital tract, for example in the urinary tract and in the uterus and oviducts. According to one embodiment, a NO permeable, liquid impermeable inflatable body (16) is positioned in the urethra (5) surrounded by the prostate gland (17), whereby an additional inflatable body (4) positioned in the bladder (2) serves to seal off the bladder from the urethra and helps in the positioning of the device. The present invention further relates to a method and a system for use in the diagnosis of inflammatory states in said organs.

摘要: The disturbing influence or orally produced nitric oxide in the measuring of exhaled nitric oxide can be ameliorated or totally eliminated through the use of a method and composition according to the present invention. The production of NO in the oral cavity is temporarily inhibited by the application of a composition having anti-bacterial and/or pH increasing effect.
