A new blood unit cooling system was designed to cool blood rapidly to about 22° C. and maintain it at about that temperature, even in ambient temperature extremes, for several hours. The system incorporating a preferred eutectic solution including 98% 1-dodecanol, 1.5% myristyl alcohol and 0.5% 1-decanol (having a melting point of about 23° C.) contained in a sealed flexible polymer layer, was used to cool whole blood-filled bags. The preferred design used double-layered transparent polyethylene, with two sealed compartments filled with the solution, separated by a flattened and sealed portion between them. One of the two sealed compartments contacts one side of the blood bag and the other compartment is folded over to contact the other side of the blood bag. The transparent compartments allows an operator to verify at any time whether the solution is in a solid state, and the flexibility of the compartments eases the proper positioning of them around a blood bag.

A method of locating a fault on an electrical network energized by a source uses a form of triangulation of voltage measurements at at least three different locations on the network, with at least one of the locations situated upstream from the fault with respect to the source. Voltage phasors corresponding to the voltages measured during the fault are time synchronized. Conductors of the network involved in the fault are determined as a function of characteristics of the voltage phasors and a fault current causing a voltage drop at one of the locations with respect to an initial voltage value is evaluated. A position of the fault is evaluated at a point of the network where a ratio between a difference of the voltages measured at two of the locations and an impedance between one of the two locations and the point is equal to the fault current.

The present invention describes a method which outlines a process for conversion of CBD to a Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) compound or derivative thereof involving treating a naturally produced CBD intermediate compound with an organoaluminum-based Lewis acid catalyst, under conditions effective to produce the Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol compound or derivative thereof at a relatively high concentration. The source of the CBD is from industrial hemp having less than 0.3% Δ9-THC and extracting and purifying a CBD distillate or isolate or a combination thereof. This procedure will produce Δ9-THC that is essentially free from any other cannabinoids other than some trace amounts of the initial CBD starting material, or about 95% Δ9-THC and 2-4% CBD. Another aspect of the present invention relates to a process for further purification and enrichment of the Δ9-THC using distillation and collecting an essentially pure fraction of Δ9-THC using additional distillation or enrichment form of purification. Included are methods and processes to scale the reaction from the lab to large scale manufacturing. Included are methods for adding a molecule marker to authenticate high purity Δ9-THC products. Formulations and uses for pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, food products, and topicals are also provided.
