The invention concerns a method for producing a highly-porous ceramic layer and for application of this layer onto metallic, ceramic, enameled and/or glass substrates using porous, ceramic particles, preferably aluminum oxide, titanium oxide and zircon oxide, and an inorganic binder system. The inorganic binder system contains at least one ceramic nanoparticle of a particle size of less than 100 nm, preferably less than 50 nm and particularly preferred less than 25 nm, the solvent being water. Layers produced in this fashion are suited as self-cleaning catalytically active layers e.g. in ovens, in combustion engines etc. or for general coating of substances to considerably increase their specific surface e.g. for catalytic substrates.

A colloidal system of ceramic nanoparticles in a dispersion medium is characterized in that the nanoparticles dispersed in the dispersion medium are distributed by 90% or more portions as unimodal nanoparticles having the same particle size in the dispersion medium, wherein the particle size variation decreases from 50%, related to nanoparticles of 1 nm, to 10% for nanoparticles of 100 nm, and the atoms and/or ions located in the surface of the nanoparticles are saturated in terms of valence in dependence on the concentration of the nanoparticles in the dispersion medium using a surface modificator such that an energetic balance of the nanoparticles in the dispersion medium is obtained. The presented colloidal system is characterized by a great stability and keeps the unimodal/monomodal nanoparticles homogeneously distributed and suspended in the dispersion medium.

The invention relates to a method for the production of ceramic coatings on metallic and/or ceramic surfaces, especially pipe walls and the linings of pipe wall in boilers, in order to protect coated surfaces from corrosion and adhesion problems, in addition to relating to coatings which can be produced according to said method. The ceramic coatings are characterised in that the coating contains boron nitride in order to form a low-energy surface, and ceramic nanoparticles as temperature-stable binding agents which, on account of their high specific powder surfaces, act as binders, or alternatively glass-type binder systems based on metal organyl compounds.
