The instant invention is directed to a polyol having a molecular weight of 2,000 to 8,000 which is especially suited for use in the production of heat sealable foams, comprising the adduct obtained by sequentially reacting:(a) a polyhydroxyl initiator, with a functionality of 2 to 5 and a weight average molecular weight as determined by gel permeation chromatography of from 62 to 200; with(b) 10 to 90%, by weight, based on the total oxide present in (b)+(c)+(d), a first alkylene oxide; and subsequently reacting the product with(c) 10 to 80%, by weight, based on the total oxide present in (b)+(c)+(d), 4,4,4-trichloro-1,2-epoxybutane and/or epihalohydrin; and subsequently reacting the product with(d) 10 to 60%, by weight, based on the total oxide present in (b)+(c)+(d), a second alkylene oxide.

Stable finely-divided dispersions of polyureas and/or polyhydrazodicarbonamides in a hydroxyl-group-containing material are made by reacting (i) an isocyanate with (ii) a compound selected from polyamines, hydrazines, hydrazides and mixtures thereof in the presence of (iii) a hydroxyl compound selected from polyethers, polyesters, polyester amides, polycarbonates and mixtures thereof and (iv) a catalyst. The catalyst is a compound which catalyzes the reaction of isocyanate groups with hydroxyl groups. The catalyst is used in a quantity of at least 50 parts per million parts of (i), (ii) and (iii). These dispersions are particularly useful in the production of polyurethanes.

The present invention is directed to polyurethane moldings produced via the RIM process. These polyurethane moldings have excellent reactivity, demold properties (at a 30 s demold), and good elongation and tear strength, and comprise the reaction product of an aliphatic polyisocyanate having a viscosity of less than about 20,000 mPa.multidot.s at 25.degree. C. and a NCO functionality of 2.3 to 4.0 with an isocyanatereactive component comprising b1) a relatively high molecular weight organic compound containing at least one of the groups selected from the group consisting of hydroxy groups and amine groups; and b2) a low molecular weight chain extender selected from the group consisting of diols, triols, primary amines, secondary amines, aminoalcohols, and mixtures thereof; in the presence of a catalyst. The OH:NH ratio of the chain extender is from 1:1 to 25:1.

Sucrose-based polyether polyols which do not promote degradation of HCFC blowing agents are produced by blocking at least 10% of the polyol's hydroxyl groups with a compound represented by the formula CH.sub.3 COCH.sub.2 COOR in which R represents an alkyl group. These polyether polyols are particularly useful in the production of polyurethane foams.

This invention relates to a process for the preparation of stable dispersions of hydroxyl-containing polyhydrazodicarbonamides in a hydroxyl-containing compound. The dispersions are prepared by the reaction of organic isocyanates, isocyanate-reactive compounds having a molecular weight in the range from 400 to 10,000, relatively low molecular weight isocyanate-reactive compounds, and hydrazines or hydrazides. This invention further relates to the dispersions prepared by said process, the use of the dispersions to prepare polyurethane foams having exceptional hardness, and the foams prepared thereby.
