摘要: A protective covering for a helmet. The protective covering includes a cushioning layer with a plurality of overlapping scales disposed on an exterior surface thereof. The covering overlies an outer surface of a substantially rigid shell of a helmet and provides additional padding via the cushioning layer to absorb impact forces received by the helmet. The scales are deflectable relative to one another to compress the cushioning layer when an impact force is received and are configured to reduce the coefficient of friction between the covering and an impacting body to thereby increase deflection of the impacting force and the impacting body. The protective covering can be applied to existing helmets or can be integrated into helmets during manufacture thereof.

摘要: A fuel system includes an electronically controllable high pressure fuel pump operable to supply high pressure fuel from a lower pressure fuel source to a high pressure fuel collection chamber having a pressure sensor associated therewith. The fuel collection chamber feeds an electronically controllable valve operable to dispense the high pressure fuel to a fuel distribution unit supplying fuel to a number of fuel injectors. A control computer is provided for controlling the high pressure fuel pump and valve in response to requested fueling, engine speed and fuel pressure provided by the pressure sensor. The control computer is normally operable to drive the fuel pump as a function of fuel pressure and a reference pressure, which is based on requested fueling, and to control the valve as a function of commanded fueling, which is a function of engine speed and a reference speed based on requested fueling, and fuel pressure. In a first limp home mode, the control computer is operable to drive the fuel pump as a function of fuel pressure and commanded fueling if abnormal operation of the high pressure fuel pump is detected. In this mode, the valve is controlled only as a function of fuel pressure. In a second limp home mode, the control computer is operable to drive the fuel pump with a predicted fuel pump command based on the fuel command and engine speed, if abnormal operation of the pressure sensor is detected. In this mode, the valve is controlled as a function of the fuel command and the reference pressure or a default pressure.

摘要: A method of determining the sequence of a target nucleic acid is provided. The method can include the steps of (a) performing a defined number of incremental extension cycles to produce a population of nucleic acid fragments having different portions of the target nucleic acid wherein the individual nucleic acid fragments in the population have a defined length that is correlated with the number of incremental extension cycles; (b) determining the sequence of the first end of individual nucleic acid fragments in the population, thereby providing first end sequences; (c) determining the sequence of the second end of individual nucleic acid fragments in the population, thereby providing second end sequences; and (d) determining the sequence of the target nucleic acid based on the first end sequences, the second end sequences and the defined length.

摘要: An anchor for a safety line for use in roofing construction and maintenance activities. The anchor includes a hooked body having a shank and a point. A safety line is coupleable between a free end of the shank and a user. An anchor plate is rotatably and pivotably coupled to the point via a joint disposed therebetween. The anchor is disposable over a peak of a roof with the anchor plate on a first side of the roof and the body extending over the peak toward a second side. A user tethered to the anchor may work on the second side of the roof; pivotal and rotational movement of the body relative to the anchor plate enabled by the joint aids to maintain the body generally in line with the safety line while the anchor plate remains frictionally engaged with the first side of the roof.

摘要: A vascular occlusion device deployment system is provided for deploying an embolic device at a preselected site within the vasculature of a patient. The deployment system includes a tubular element having a catch movably located within the tubular element. The catch has a normal open configuration and a closed configuration. When in the closed configuration, the catch grasps a headpiece of an embolic device. The tubular element has a constraining section and a releasing section. When the catch is within the constraining section of the tubular element, the constraining section acts upon the catch to keep the catch in a closed configuration. When the catch is moved to the releasing section, the catch returns to its normally open configuration and releases its grasp of the embolic device headpiece.
