Abstract: A loudspeaker system with viscoelastic material affixed between two flexible panels is disclosed. The loudspeaker system dissipates the energy of motion, resulting in less pronounced resonant peaks. The effect may be especially evident at high frequencies, where energy is dissipated over many cycles in a shorter period of time. Also disclosed are the method of making the loudspeaker system and a method of using the loudspeaker system.

Abstract: Systems and methods of driving plate loudspeakers with different parameters based on frequency region in a way similar to typical cone driver crossover networks are described. These systems and methods may be implemented using arrays of independently controlled drivers which allow a designer to emphasize or de-emphasize certain modes in certain frequency bands. Tuning the characteristics of the plate's motion can also affect the acoustical properties in a larger space rather than just at a single location. The systems and methods described herein can grant a designer a degree of control over the characteristics and performance of the plate.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for removing reverberation from signals. The systems and methods can be applicable to audio signals, for example, to voice, musical instrument sounds, and the like. Signals such as the vowel sounds in speech and the sustained portions of many musical instrument sounds can be composed of a fundamental frequency component and a series of harmonically related overtones. The systems and methods can exploit the intrinsically high degree of mutual correlation among the overtones. When such signals are passed through a reverberant channel, the degree of mutual correlation among the partials can be reduced. An inverse channel filter for the removal of reverberation can be found by employing an adaptive filter technique that maximizes the cross-correlation among signal overtones.

Abstract: Methods and compositions for depositing a monolayer onto a surface of a substrate are described. The method can include contacting the surface with a vapor phase comprising a carbene source, and reacting a carbene group from the carbene source with a functional group on the surface, to obtain a covalently bound monolayer on the surface of the substrate.
