    摘要: A misfire state discrimination system of an internal combustion engine, which determines the occurrence of misfire under engine operating conditions that make misfire determination possible and counts the number of misfires to compare with a reference value. The misfire state of the engine is discriminated based on the result of comparison. In the system, when the engine operation moves from the conditions that makes the misfire determination possible, the count is saved and is counted up from the count when the engine operation returns to the condition. The saved count is also retained when the engine is stopped. Similarly, the number of combustion during which the determination of misfire occurrence is made is counted and the count is saved. This arrangement enables a rapid and accurate discrimination of the misfire state of the engine.

    摘要: An evaporative fuel-processing system includes a first control valve arranged in a charging passage connecting between a fuel tank and a canister for adsorbing evaporative fuel generated from the fuel tank, a second control valve arranged in a purging passage connecting between the canister and an intake passage of the engine, a third control valve arranged in an air inlet port of the canister, and a system internal pressure sensor for detecting pressure within the system. The system is checked for a leak by monitoring a value of the pressure detected by the sensor after the system is negatively pressurized by closing the third control valve and opening the second control valve. The sensor is provided at a location upstream of the first control valve, and the first control valve is closed to detect a value of the pressure or a change thereof. Abnormality determination is carried out based on the detected value of the pressure. Alternatively, all of the above valves are closed in the negatively-pressurized state of the system to detect a first amount of change in the pressure, and then the first control valve alone is opened to detect a second amount of change in the pressure. Abnormality determination can be carried out based on the first and second amounts of change in the pressure, or by comparing a value of the pressure detected when the first and second valves are closed after negative pressurization with a value of the pressure detected after the first control valve is opened.

    摘要: A knocking control system for an internal combustion engine with inlet valves and exhaust valves having valve timing thereof controlled depending on operating conditions of the engine. It is determined whether or not knocking has occurred in the engine on the basis of a detection parameter indicative of knocking and at least one discrimination parameter. The operation of the engine is controlled by the use of at least one control parameter in response to the determination result, so as to eleminate knocking. The values of the discrimination and control parameters are selected in accordance with the actual valve timing. When abnormality in the valve timing control is detected, the valve timing is held at predetermined valve timing irrespective of engine operating conditions, and values of the at least one discriminating parameter and the at least one control parameter are selected, which correspond to the held predetermined valve timing. Alternatively, when abnormality in the valve timing control is detected, the above control of the engine operation is inhibited.

    摘要: A failsafe method in connection with valve timing-changeover control for an internal combustion engine. An abnormality in a control system of the engine is detected. A changeover-instructing signal is generated for changing the valve timing to the low speed valve timing in both of the lower and higher engine speed regions, when the abnormality is detected. When the abnormality is detected, the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture to be supplied to the engine is enriched when the engine is in a predetermined operating condition determined by the detected value of at least one engine parameter. The enriching of the air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture is carried out by multiplying a basic fuel injection period by a correction coefficient or selecting a suitable basic fuel injection period map.

    摘要: An air intake side secondary air supply system for an internal combustion engine having an air intake system using a carburetor and an air intake side secondary air supply passage leading to the downstream of the carburetor, includes an oxygen concentration sensor producing an output signal whose level is substantially proportional to an oxygen concentration of the exhaust gas. A control means for controlling a duty ratio of opening and closing of an open/close valve disposed in the air intake side secondary air supply passage in accordance with a result of comparison between the level of the output signal of the oxygen concentration sensor and a level corresponding to a target air-fuel ratio. The target air-fuel ratio is up-dated in response to at least two parameters indicative of the engine operation.

The valve opens the passage when pressure within part of the evaporative emission control system upstream of the valve exceeds a predetermined value and, closes the passage when the pressure is below the predetermined value. It is determined that the evaporative emission control system is normal when a value of the pressure with the part of the system detected by a pressure sensor is lower than a predetermined reference value below atmospheric pressure.

    摘要: An abnormality detection system is provided, which detects abnormality in an evaporative fuel control system for an internal combustion engine. A plurality of temperature sensors are arranged in an evaporative fuel storage device at different locations for detecting the temperature of an adsorbent or in the vicinity thereof within the storage device at the different locations. An ECU controls at least one of charging of evaporative fuel from the fuel tank to the storage device and purging of evaporative fuel from the storage device to the intake system of the engine. The ECU determines the presence or absence of an abnormality in the evaporative fuel control system, based upon output values from the temperature sensors assumed when the control system is operative. A state in which adsorption of evaporative fuel generated in the fuel tank to the adsorbent of the storage device has been completed is detected, based upon the amount of a rise in temperature detected while the charging is being effected. The ECU effects the abnormality determination after the state has been detected. The system may be applied to an internal combustion engine in which the air-fuel ratio is controlled by the use of an air-fuel ratio correction coefficient determined in response to an output from an air-fuel ratio sensor.

The control method uses various parameters to cause the changeover to occur when the engine output is substantially the same in the two different valve timing speed ranges between which the changeover is being made to minimize any shock loading during the changeover. In a fuel injection type engine, the preset quantities of fuel injection that would normally be supplied to the engine for those two different valve timing speed ranges are used to determine the engine output and return the proper time for the changeover.

    摘要: An apparatus for sensing the concentration of oxygen in a gas such as engine exhaust gas includes an oxygen concentration sensor formed of an oxygen pump element and a sensor cell element, each based on a solid electrolytic member formed of a material such as ZrO.sub.2, and is provided with a limiter circuit which functions to reduce the level of current supplied to the oxygen pump element when a voltage produced by the sensor cell element indicates that this current level is such as to produce a "blackening" phenomenon whereby deterioration of the oxygen pump element will occur and oxygen concentration sensing reliability will be lowered. The apparatus also includes a delay circuit which functions such that a reduction of the oxygen pump element current level is delayed by a predetermined time interval, after an increase of the sensor cell element voltage to the "blanking" region is detected, thereby preventing fluctuations in the oxygen pump element current level due to transient increases in sensor cell element voltage and increasing the sensing reliability.
