    Abstract: An article for use in an injection molding process is disclosed. The article is a sleeve which may be used to facilitate the removal of a molded part from a central core. The device eliminates the need for a draft angle which may be unsuitable for molded parts in certain applications. A method for injection molding is disclosed which uses this sleeve in the injection molding process. An article produced by this process is also disclosed.

    Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display. The electronic device may include a housing. A display trim may be formed from injection molded plastic that is molded directly onto the housing. The molded plastic trim may form a rectangular ring around the periphery of the housing. The housing may have angled or curved interior surfaces that are covered by the molded plastic trim. Computer-controlled positioners may be used to center the housing within an injection molding tool. Independently controlled positioners may also be used in capturing the housing between the lower die and the upper die in the injection molding tool. The injection molding tool may inject thermoplastic elastomer material into a channel in the upper die to form the plastic display trim.

A display may include a display unit that includes an array of display pixels and a backlight unit that provides backlight illumination for the display pixels. An automated alignment system may be used to align the display unit to the backlight unit. The alignment system may include a camera, a control unit, and computer-controlled positioners. The control unit may gather alignment feature location information from the display unit and the backlight unit using the camera. The control unit may determine a centroid of the backlight unit based on the alignment feature location information. The alignment feature location information may include the respective locations of openings in the backlight unit. The control unit may operate computer-controlled positioners to align the display unit with respect to the backlight unit using the centroid and to subsequently attach the display unit to the backlight unit.
