    Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to a mobile device that initiates handovers from short-range networks to long-range networks. In various embodiments, a mobile device includes one or more radios that communicate using a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs) including a cellular RAT and a short-range RAT. In such an embodiment, the mobile device stores an indication that the cellular RAT is a preferred RAT for a communication session. The mobile may establish the communication session using the preferred RAT, and in response to determining that a quality of the preferred RAT fails to satisfy a set of quality criteria, may request that the communication session use the short-range RAT. In some embodiments, the mobile device analyzes average packet error rate for the communication session and in response to the average packet error rate satisfying a threshold, requests that the communication session use the cellular RAT.

    Abstract: A mobile device receives an invitation to commence a media session. The invitation may be from a legitimate caller or from a spoofing caller. The mobile device checks parameters using templates to evaluate a consistency of the invitation with respect to a database in the mobile device. The templates include session protocol, network topology, routing, and social templates. Specific template data includes standardized protocol parameters, values from a database of the mobile device and phonebook entries of the mobile device. Examples of the parameters include capabilities, preconditions, vendor equipment identifiers, a hop counter value and originating network information. The originating network information may be obtained from the database by first querying an on-line database to determine a network identifier associated with caller identification information in the invitation. Then, the obtained carrier identifier is used as an index into a database to obtain template data characteristic of the identified originating network.

    Abstract: A method for receiving feedback on a quality of multicast transmissions in a Wireless Local Access Network (WLAN) including a source electronic device (e.g., an access point) and a plurality of electronic devices is disclosed, according to some embodiments. The method can include (i) transmitting a plurality of multicast packets addressed to a subset of the plurality of electronic devices by the source electronic device; (ii) concurrently polling the subset of the plurality of electronic devices by the source electronic device; and (iii) receiving a plurality of block acknowledgements (BAs) from at least the subset of the plurality of electronic devices by the source electronic device. Each BA may include information on a quality of reception of two or more multicast packets received at an electronic device.

    Abstract: A method for offloading data traffic from a cellular connection to a WLAN connection via a wireless P2P connection is disclosed. The method can include the wireless communication device accessing offloading coordination information from an offload coordination service server, including information about at least one neighboring wireless communication device being within sufficient proximity of the wireless communication device to establish a wireless P2P connection and having access to a WLAN access point; using the offloading coordination information to select a relay device from the at least one neighboring wireless communication device; establishing a wireless P2P connection with the relay device; and offloading data traffic from the cellular connection to the wireless P2P connection so that the data traffic is relayed from the relay device to a network via a WLAN access point accessible to the relay device.
