Abstract: The present invention relates to a copolymer (A) having a glass transition temperature Tg of at least −30° C. obtainable by copolymerization of a mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers (a) in at least one organic solvent and in the presence of at least one initiator, where the mixture of monomers (a) to be polymerized comprises (a1) 10 to 60 mol % of at least one monomer of the formula (I) below where R1=C1 to C4 alkoxy, R2=C1 to C4 alkyl, and m=0 to 2, and (a2) 40 to 90 mol % of at least one olefinically unsaturated monomer selected from the group consisting of monomers of the formulae H2C═CH2—(C═O)—O—Rx, H2C═CH(CH3)—(C═O)—O—Rx, and H2C═CH2—O—(C═O)—Rx, where Rx is an alkyl radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and where the sum total of the molar fractions of the monomers (a1) and (a2), based on the total molar amount of monomers (a) used, is at least 90 mol %, and where the copolymerization is carried out at a temperature from 60 to 200° C. and at a pressure of at least 2 bar.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an aqueous, one-pack coating composition including a polymer, a crosslinking agent, a polymeric surface-active agent, and an organic rheology control agent. The total solids content of the coating composition is from 7.5-11.5 wt.-%; the viscosity at 23° C. is from 2000-12000 mPas at a shear rate of 0.1 s-1¬; the amount of the polymeric surface-active agent is from 0.5-25 wt.-% based on the total solids content of the coating composition; the amount of the organic rheology control agent is from 5-12 wt.-% based on the total solids content of the coating composition; and the coating composition does not contain platelet-shaped particulate material having a median particle size of 2 μm or more. Further disclosed herein are methods of producing a coating and applying the coating with a device producing a coating composition jet, and substrates coated by the methods.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an aqueous coating composition including an anionically stabilized binder,a color pigment, a polycarboxylic acid, and optionally a solvent. Further disclosed is a method for producing an inventive aqueous coating composition by adding a solution of polycarboxylic acid in a solvent to a coating composition including an anionically stabilized binder and color pigment.Additionally disclosed is a method for producing a multicoat paint system by producing a basecoat layer or at least two directly consecutive basecoat layers directly on a substrate optionally coated with a first coating layer, producing a clearcoat layer directly on the basecoat layer or the topmost basecoat layer, and jointly curing the basecoat layer(s) and the clearcoat layer. At least one of the basecoat materials includes the aqueous coating composition disclosed herein and/or an aqueous coating prepared by the disclosed method. A multicoat paint system obtainable by the method is additionally disclosed.
