The efficient production of poly(tetramethylene ether) diacetate [PTMEA] or other diesters, from tetrahydrofuran [THF] is obtained utilizing an acid-based catalyst that is based on a morphologically reconfigured and Bronsted acidity enhanced halloysite derived from a preparation method of using naturally occurring halloysites. More specifically, the method relates to morphological modification of the internal pore structure of halloysites via supercritical carbon dioxide treatment directly applied onto the raw halloysite minerals, that yields highly synergistic and reproducible results of elimination of inaccessible and detrimental extra-small pores. Disclosed is a process for manufacturing copolyether ester polyol comprising: (1) providing feedstock comprising polytetramethylene ether glycol having a number average molecular weight of 350 g/mol or less and an oligomeric cyclic ether content of 4.0% by weight or more and a diacid composition selected from alpha-omega alkanedioic acids of formula HO2C—(CH2)n—CO2H, where n is from 2 through 16 to a reaction zone maintained at reaction conditions to produce a crude polyol product; (2) feeding the crude polyol product of step (1) to a separation zone at separation conditions to produce a first separation product having an oligomeric cyclic ether content of 2.0% by weight or greater, and a second separation product comprising copolyether ester polyol having an oligomeric cyclic ether content of less than 2.0% by weight; and (3) recovering the second separation product.

Provided is a block copolymer having an “A” block of a functionalized hydrocarbon moiety including one or more functional end groups selected from the group consisting of: epoxides, amines, acids, acid chlorides, acid anhydrides, halogens, vinyl or vinylidene double bond, aromatic rings and thiols, and a “B” block of a functionalized polyether moiety including one or more functional end groups selected from the group consisting: epoxides, amines, acids, acid chlorides, acid anhydrides, halogens, vinyl or vinylidene double bond, aromatic rings and thiols. The end group of the polyether moiety is different than the end group of the hydrocarbon moiety, and the hydrocarbon moiety and the polyether moiety are copolymerizable therewith. Preferably, the hydrocarbon moiety is a poly-α-olefin and the polyether moiety is a polyalkylene glycol.
