Abstract: The presently claimed invention provides a layered catalytic article comprising a first layer comprising a nickel component and a ceria component, wherein the amount of the nickel component is 1.0 to 50 wt. %, calculated as nickel oxide, based on the total weight of the first layer, and wherein the first layer is essentially free of copper; a second layer comprising a platinum group metal component, an oxygen storage component, and an alumina component, wherein the platinum group metal component comprises platinum, rhodium, palladium, or any combination thereof, and wherein the amount of the platinum group metal component is 0.0 to 5 wt. %. based on the total weight of the second layer; and a substrate. The presently claimed invention also provides a process for preparing the layered catalytic article. It further provides an exhaust system for internal combustion engines comprising a layered catalytic article.

Abstract: Described are three-way conversion (TWC) catalytic articles effective to abate hydrocarbons (HCs), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from an engine exhaust gas containing phosphorous impurities. The disclosed catalytic article has a layered catalytic material, wherein the first layer of the catalytic material is disposed directly on the substrate and a second layer is disposed on top of the first layer. The second layer includes phosphorus resistant materials that prevent catalytic poisoning of the catalytic article by the phosphorous impurities. In particular, the second layer includes a phosphorus trap material having an alkaline earth metal component and a rhodium component impregnated on a phosphorus-resistant support material.

Abstract: Composites of mixed metal oxides for an exhaust gas purifying catalyst comprise the following co-precipitated materials by weight of the composite: zirconia in an amount in the range of 55-99%; titania in an amount in the range of 1-25%; a promoter and/or a stabilizer in an amount in the range of 0-20%. These composites are effective as supports for platinum group metals (PGMs), in particular rhodium.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a catalyst substrate, including: a) a ceramic material and b) a magnetic material, wherein the magnetic material is capable of inductive heating in response to an applied alternating magnetic field. The magnetic material can be associated with the ceramic material in various ways (e.g., dispersed within at least a portion of the ceramic material or contained within pores of the ceramic material). The disclosure further provides a catalyst article including such a catalyst substrate and at least one catalytic washcoat layer deposited thereon. The catalyst article can be adapted for various purposes, depending on the composition of the catalytic washcoat. The disclosure also includes a system and method for heating a catalyst material, which includes the catalyst article and a conductor for receiving current and generating an alternating electromagnetic field in response thereto.

Abstract: Provided are automotive catalyst composites having a catalytic material on a carrier, wherein the catalytic material comprises at least two layers. The first layer is deposited directly on the carrier and comprises a first palladium component supported on a first refractory metal oxide component, a first oxygen storage component, or a combination thereof. The second layer is deposited on top of the first layer and comprises a rhodium component supported on a second refractory metal oxide component and a second palladium component supported on a second oxygen storage component, a third refractory metal oxide component or a combination thereof. Generally these catalyst composites are used as three-way conversion (TWC) catalysts. Methods of making and using the same are also provided.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a three-way conversion (TWC) catalyst composition, and a catalyst article comprising such a catalyst composition suitable for at least partial conversion of gaseous hydrocarbons (HCs), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). Generally, the catalyst article includes a catalyst substrate having a plurality of channels adapted for gas flow, each channel having a wall surface and a catalytic coating on the surfaces or inside the pores of the wall. The catalytic coating generally includes a first washcoat with a platinum group metal (PGM) component and a first refractory metal oxide support and a second washcoat having a plurality of palladium-rhodium nanoparticles and a second refractory metal oxide support.
