Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing hydrocarbons including aromatic hydrocarbons and lower olefins including propylene from CH4 and CO2 through CO and H2 with high activity and high selectivity. The apparatus is provided with: a synthetic gas production unit to which a gas containing CH4 and CO2 is supplied from a first supply unit, and which generates a synthetic gas containing CO and H2 while heating a first catalyst structure; a production unit to which the synthetic gas is supplied and which generates hydrocarbons including aromatic hydrocarbons having 6-10 carbon atoms and lower olefins including propylene while heating a second catalyst structure; and a detection unit which detects propylene and the aromatic hydrocarbons discharged from the production unit, in which the first catalyst structure includes first supports having a porous structure and a first metal fine particle in the first supports, the first supports have a first channels, the first metal fine particle is present in the first channels, the second catalyst structure includes second supports having a porous structure and a second metal fine particle in the second supports, the second supports have a second channels, and a portion of the second channels have an average inner diameter of 0.95 nm or less.

Abstract: A hierarchical catalyst composition comprising a continuous or particulate macroporous scaffold in which is incorporated mesoporous aggregates of magnetic nanoparticles, wherein an enzyme is embedded in mesopores of the mesoporous aggregates of magnetic nanoparticles. Methods for synthesizing the hierarchical catalyst composition are also described. Also described are processes that use the recoverable hierarchical catalyst composition for depolymerizing lignin, remediation of water contaminated with aromatic substances, polymerizing monomers by a free-radical mechanism, epoxidation of alkenes, halogenation of phenols, inhibiting growth and function of microorganisms in a solution, and carbon dioxide conversion to methanol. Further described are methods for increasing the space time yield and/or total turnover number of a liquid-phase chemical reaction that includes magnetic particles to facilitate the chemical reaction, the method comprising subjecting the chemical reaction to a plurality of magnetic fields of selected magnetic strength, relative position in the chemical reaction, and relative motion.

Abstract: A selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst composition effective in the abatement of nitrogen oxides (NOx) is provided. The SCR catalyst composition significantly increases the conversion of NOx relative to a Cu-chabazite reference catalyst composition at any temperature, and especially at low temperatures. A catalyst article, an exhaust gas treatment system, and a method of treating an exhaust gas stream, each including the SCR catalyst composition of the invention, are also provided. The SCR catalyst composition is particularly useful for treatment of exhaust from a lean-burn engine.

Abstract: A honeycomb body having a cutout, an assembly including the honeycomb body, and a method of manufacturing. The method includes forming the honeycomb body having a matrix of intersecting walls that define a plurality of cells and channels extending longitudinally through the honeycomb body. A subset of the channels are plugged to create a plurality of plugged cells in a reinforcement region of the honeycomb body. Material is removed from the honeycomb body within the reinforcement region in accordance with a peripheral shape that passes through the plugged cells to form a cutout that extends an axial depth into the honeycomb body.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing a catalyst article comprising steps: (a) preparing a washcoat composition by combining at least the following components: a support material comprising a mixed oxide, a mixture of oxides or a molecular sieve comprising (i) alumina and (ii) silica and/or zirconia; a metal oxide sol comprising at least one of titania, silica or zirconia; a liquid medium; (b) applying the washcoat composition to a substrate to form a washcoating; and (c) drying and/or calcining the washcoating; wherein the method further comprises a step of impregnating the support material with a platinum group metal component. The prepared catalyst article may be suitable for the treatment of emissions from an internal combustion engine or a gas turbine, for example, the treatment of carbon monoxide and/or formaldehyde emissions from a natural gas fueled internal combustion engine or gas turbine.

Abstract: According to one or more other aspects of the present disclosure, a system for reforming a liquid hydrocarbon fuel includes a mixing zone with a fuel intake fluidly coupled to a liquid hydrocarbon fuel source and an oxygen-containing gas intake fluidly coupled to an oxygen-containing gas source. The mixing zone further includes at least one atomizing nozzle and a fuel distribution zone downstream the at least on atomizing nozzle. The system also includes a catalyst reaction zone downstream the mixing zone, including a monolith block having a plurality of flow channels defined by monolith walls and a reforming catalyst coated onto the monolith walls. The atomizing nozzle generates a plurality of droplets comprising the liquid hydrocarbon fuel suspended in oxygen-containing gas. The fuel distribution zone distributes the plurality of droplets to each of the plurality of flow channels to contact the reforming catalyst including N-hydroxyphthalimide.
