Abstract:
The present invention which provides antifoaming agents for the paper industry, based on oil-in-water emulsions, in which the oil phase accounts for from 5 to 50% by weight of the emulsion if the oil phase of the emulsions contains (a) an alcohol of not less than 12 carbon atoms, fatty esters of alcohols of not less than 22 carbon atoms and C1-C36-carboxylic acids, distillation residues which are obtainable in the preparation of alcohols having a relatively large number of carbon atoms by the oxo synthesis or by the Ziegler method and which may furthermore be alkoxylated, a mixture of the stated compounds and (b) optionally a fatty ester of a C12-C22-carboxylic acid with a monohydric to trihydric C1-C18-alcohol and, (c) optionally a hydrocarbon having a boiling point above 200° C. or a fatty acid of 12 to 22 carbon atoms, in combination with from 1 to 80% by weight of component (d) comprising (d1) polyglyceryl esters which are obtainable by not less than 20% esterification of a polyglycerol mixture of from 0 to 10% by weight of monoglycerol, from 15 to 40% by weight of diglycerol, from 30 to 55% by weight of triglycerol, from 10 to 25% by weight of tetraglycerol, from 0 to 15% by weight of pentaglycerol, from 0 to 10% by weight of hexaglycerol and from 0 to 5% by weight of polyglycerols having higher degrees of condensation with one or more fatty acids of 12 to 36 carbon atoms; and (d2) C18-C30 alkyl behenate. The antifoaming agents can be used for preventing foam in pulp cooking, in the beating of paper stock, in papermaking and in the dispersing of pigments for papermaking. Further, the anti-foaming agents can be used for preventing foam in paper stocks.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide enzymatic formulations comprising a polypeptide having amylase activity for producing a paper product. Also provided are aqueous surface treatment compositions for paper and board comprising degraded starch. Further provided are methods for producing paper and board using the aqueous surface treatment composition, and to corrugated boards produced from this paper.

The present invention relates to an aqueous surface coating composition for paper and board with a solids content of 1 to 55 wt % comprising (A) 0 to 20 parts by weight of starch (solids), (B) 0.01 to 20 parts by weight of a zirconium carbonate compound, (C) 0.01 to 40 parts by weight of water-soluble synthetic polymer (solids) containing in copolymerized form one or more monomers having monoethylenic double bonds, and also to a method for producing paper and board using the aqueous surface coating composition, and to corrugated boards produced from this paper.

The invention relates to an aqueous composition comprising (a) polymers having primary amino groups and/or amidine groups to a combined content for these groups of ≧1.5 meq/g of polymer, and (b) 0.01 to 50 mol % of 1,4-cyclohexanedione (b) based on the combined amount of primary amino groups and amidine groups of the polymers, wherein the pH of the aqueous composition is ≦6, and further to its use as strength enhancer and to a method of producing paper and board, employment of the aqueous composition and also the paper and board thus obtained.

A process for producing paper or board, which process comprises ad-mixing (I) an aqueous composition of pH ≦6 and (II) at least one water-soluble polymeric anionic compound to a paper stock having a pH in the range from 6 to 8 and then dewatering the paper stock by sheet formation and drying, wherein the aqueous composition comprises (a) polymers having primary amino groups and/or amidine groups to a combined content for these groups of ≧1.5 meq/g of polymer, and (b) 0.01 to 50 mol % of 1,4-cyclohexanedione (b) based on the combined amount of primary amino groups and/or amidine groups of the polymers, and also to the paper or board thus obtained.

The present invention relates to a process for producing corrugated fiberboard from plies of paper which each have a grammage of 70 to 200 g/m2 and of which at least one ply of paper is obtained by a process comprising the addition of (A) 0.25 to 5 wt %, based on dry paper stock, of at least one cationic polymer comprising vinylamine units, and (B) 0 to 5 wt %, based on dry paper stock, of at least one polymeric anionic compound, to a paper stock, draining the paper stock by sheet formation, coating the paper web obtained with (C) 0.1 to 3 wt %, based on dry paper stock, of at least one starch and drying the coated paper web,wherein the polymeric anionic compound is selected from a polymeric anionic compound (B1) and a polymeric anionic compound (B2),wherein said polymeric anionic compound (B1) is obtainable by copolymerizing a monomer mixture comprising, preferably consisting of, (a) at least one monomer (a) selected from acrylamide and an N-vinylcarboxamide of the formula where R1 and R2 are each H or C1 to C6 alkyl, (b) at least one acid-functional monoethylenically unsaturated monomer and/or its alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium salts (b), and (c) optionally one or more monoethylenically unsaturated compounds (c) other than said monomers (a) and (b), and (d) optionally one or more compounds having at least two ethylenically unsaturated double bonds in the molecule, and said polymeric anionic compound (B2) is the hydrolysis product of said polymeric anionic compound (B1) whose carboxamide moieties have been partly or wholly hydrolyzed into amino groups,and also the corrugated fiberboard thus obtained and its use in the manufacture of packaging boxes from corrugated fiberboard.
