Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to chemical sensing elements including a rolled multilayer structure. In a first aspect, a method of making a chemical sensor element is included, the method including depositing a polymer layer onto a deposition substrate, infusing a chemical sensor composition into the polymer layer, applying a hydrogel layer over the polymer layer to form a multilayer film, rolling the multilayer film down the deposition substrate, and slicing the multilayer film to form the chemical sensor element. Other embodiments are also included herein.

A Hansen Solubility Parameter Distance between the solvent mixture and HSP coordinates having a dispersion HSP of 18.02 MPa0.5, a polar HSP of 5.56 MPa0.5, and a hydrogen bonding HSP of 14.27 MPa0.5 is less than about 2 MPa0.5.

Abstract: An implantable drug eluting medical device includes a polymer substrate having a surface, a first plurality of nanofibers, and at least one antimicrobial drug. Each of the first plurality of nanofibers includes a first portion interpenetrated with the surface of the substrate to mechanically fix the nanofiber to the substrate, and a second portion projecting from the surface. The at least one antimicrobial drug is disposed within or among the second portion of the first plurality of nanofibers.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to implantable medical devices including a fibrous cover layer. In an embodiment, an implantable medical device is included having a housing, an optical chemical sensing element disposed along the housing, and a fibrous electrospun cover layer, wherein the fibrous electrospun cover layer is disposed over the optical chemical sensing element. In another embodiment, a method of making an implantable medical device is included. The method can specifically include depositing an optical chemical sensing element into a sensor optical carrier attached to a housing and applying a fibrous electrospun cover layer over the optical chemical sensing element. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Abstract: A medical electrical lead includes an insulative lead body extending from a distal region to a proximal region, a conductor disposed within the insulative lead body and extending from the proximal region to the distal region, an electrode disposed on the insulative lead body and in electrical contact with the conductor, and a fibrous matrix disposed on at least part of the electrode. The fibrous matrix includes fibers. The fibers include a polyvinylidene fluoride-based (PVDF-based) polymer and a crystal-modifying additive. The PVDF-based polymer includes an amorphous PVDF phase and a crystalline PVDF phase. The crystalline PVDF phase includes a beta form crystalline structure in an amount exceeding any other crystalline structure form in the crystalline PVDF phase.
