Abstract: An article having recyclability properties including a combination of: (a) at least one polyolefin polymer; and (b) a waterborne adhesive composition having a recyclability property, wherein the recyclability property of the waterborne adhesive composition is such that when the article with the waterborne adhesive composition is reprocessed, the article with the waterborne adhesive composition exhibits less than a 40% decreased change in performance compared to a control article without the waterborne adhesive composition that is reprocessed the same way as the article with the waterborne adhesive composition; a recyclable laminate structure including (a) at least one first polymer film layer; and (β) at least one layer of the above waterborne laminating adhesive composition; and a process for manufacturing the above recyclable laminate structure.

Abstract: A two-component solventless polyurethane adhesive composition including (A) at least one isocyanate component and (B) at least one polyol component. The isocyanate component (A) comprises an isocyanate prepolymer that is the reaction product of (Ai) a polyisocyanate and (Aii) an isocyanate-reactive component; wherein the isocyanate-reactive component comprises (Aiia) at least one polyol having a functionality greater than two, (Aiib) at least one aromatic polyester polyol having a functionality of greater than two, and (Aiic) at least one hydrophobic polyol. The polyol component (B) comprises (Bi) at least one polyether polyol having a functionality greater than two, (Bii) at least one aromatic polyester polyol transesterified with a natural oil, and (Biii) at least one phosphate ester polyol. A method for forming a laminate is also disclosed, the method comprising the steps of: (I) mixing the above reactants (components (A) and (B)) to form a solventless adhesive composition, (II) applying a layer of the solventless adhesive composition to a surface of a first substrate, (III) bringing the layer of the solventless adhesive composition on the first substrate into contact with a surface of a second substrate to form a laminate, and (IV) curing the solventless adhesive composition. A laminate comprising the above solventless adhesive composition is also disclosed.

Abstract: Methods for preparing waterborne heat seal coating compositions are disclosed, including (A) melt blending an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, a tackifier, and a wax in a first mixing apparatus to form a melt blend, (B) contacting the melt blend with an initial aqueous stream comprising a neutralizing agent, water, and a surfactant in an emulsification zone of the second mixing apparatus to form a dispersion, and (C) diluting the dispersion with water in a dilution zone of the second mixing apparatus to form the waterborne heat seal coating composition. Methods for preparing waterborne heat seal coating compositions are also disclosed, including (A) melt blending an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, a tackifier, and a wax in a mixing and conveying zone of a mixing apparatus to form a melt blend, (B) contacting the melt blend with an initial aqueous stream comprising a neutralizing agent, water, and a surfactant in an emulsification zone of the mixing apparatus to form a dispersion, and (C) diluting the dispersion with water in a dilution zone of the mixing apparatus to form the waterborne heat seal coating composition, wherein the length-to-diameter ratio of the extruder mixing apparatus is greater than or equal to 12 to 1. Waterborne heat seal coating compositions prepared according to the disclosed methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a process comprising providing an isocyanate component A comprising a blend of (i) an aromatic isocyanate prepolymer and (ii) an aliphatic isocyanate prepolymer; providing a polyol component B comprising a blend of; (i) a phosphate-functional polyol, (ii) a polyether polyol, and (iii) an element selected from the group consisting of a polyurethane polyol, a polyester polyol and a combination thereof; mixing component A and component B to form a solventless adhesive (SLA) composition, wherein a weight ratio of component A to component B is from 2:1 to 1:1, the SLA composition having a pot life from 30 min to 60 min at 40 C; applying the SLA composition between a first film and a second film to form a raw laminate; and curing the raw laminate to form a laminate product.

Abstract: A process comprising a) mixing i) an isocyanate reactive component that contains from 2 to 100 weight percent of an aminobenzoate terminated composition wherein the isocyanate reactive component does not contain a solvent; and ii) an isocyanate terminated component having an isocyanate functionality of from 2 to 6 wherein the isocyanate terminated component does not contain a solvent; at a stoichiometric ratio of NCO to reactive hydrogen in the range of from 0.9 to 2.5; to form an adhesive composition; b) applying the adhesive composition to a primary substrate; and c) laminating the primary substrate with a secondary film to form a laminate structure, is disclosed. The laminate structure can be used as a laminating adhesive.

The two-component solvent-less adhesive composition contains the reaction product of (A) an isocyanate component containing the reaction product of (i) an isocyanate monomer and (ii) a first dimer acid polyester polyol; and (B) a polyol component containing (i) a second dimer acid polyester polyol and (ii) optionally, a polyol selected from a polyether polyol, a polyester polyol, and combinations thereof. The two-component solvent-less adhesive composition contains from 15 wt % to 45 wt % units derived from dimer acid, based on the total weight of the two-component solvent-less adhesive composition.
