    摘要: Noise and vibrations associated with a common rail fuel system drive linkage are reduced by synchronizing a high pressure common rail supply pump with engine operation. This may be accomplished by selecting a linkage associated with a desired ratio of engine speed to pump speed along with selecting a number of pump plungers and cam lobes that results in synchronizing action of the pump with engine combustion events. In particular, a pattern of pumping events per engine cycle repeats during each engine cycle. In a more sophisticated version, the pattern of pumping events per engine cycle includes a sub-pattern of pumping events that repeats an integer number of times each engine cycle, where the integer number equals the number of engine cylinders.

    摘要: In order to prevent damage to a drive component, fail safe devices are often used to break a rotational coupling between an apparatus, such as a pump, and the drive component, such as a crank shaft of an engine, in the event of the apparatus seizing. In order to break the coupling between a drive component and an apparatus, the rotational coupling includes a coupler that is operable to rotate in a first direction attached to a shaft via a threaded fastener. A predetermined break away torque is set by tightening the threaded fastener in a direction opposite than the first direction with a predetermined tightening torque. A torque transmission interface includes opposing surfaces of the coupler and the shaft that remain fixed relative to one another below a predetermined break away torque and move relative to one another above the predetermined break away torque.

The injection orifice is configured to communicate the central bore with the at least one combustion chamber.

    摘要: A fuel injector includes an auxiliary valve member that can assist in raising a mean injection pressure, increase a nozzle valve opening pressure, and hasten the closure rate of a nozzle valve member over an equivalent fuel injector without the auxiliary valve. The auxiliary valve member is fluidly positioned between a needle control chamber and a high pressure space, which includes a fuel pressurization chamber within the fuel injector. The auxiliary valve member includes a closing hydraulic surface exposed to fluid pressure in the high pressure space. The plumbing and the auxiliary valve member allow high pressure fuel to act upon a closing hydraulic surface of the nozzle valve member to increase valve opening pressure and mean injection pressure. The needle control chamber may be vented or may be a closed volume when the auxiliary valve member is in its closed position. The invention is potentially applicable to any fuel injector, but finds the preferred application in cam actuated fuel injectors that include an electronically controlled spill valve.
