    摘要: Low weight, low cost, low complexity systems and methods for performing large thermal transfer during worst-case conditions to ensure a light-emitting diode (LED) light. An exemplary device includes a housing with a sealed cavity, a circuit board having a first side attached to one side of the housing, a plurality of light sources attached to a second side of the circuit board and a material located within the sealed cavity. The material changes phase at a predefined temperature. The housing includes a plurality of protrusions that extend into the cavity. The housing and the protrusions transfer heat generated by the light sources into the material. The plurality of light sources include light-emitting diodes (LEDs). A plurality of optical elements direct light generated by the LEDs. The optical elements are attached to the circuit board.

    摘要: A system and method for determining when a LED-based position light is nearing its end of life by providing to maintenance personnel visible indication that end of life is approaching. An example system includes a controller, a main LED light, an indicator LED light, a first elapsed time counter, a second elapsed time counter, and an oscillator. The first elapsed time counter recognizes when a first time threshold is exceeded, causing the indicator LED light to flash and triggering the second elapsed time counter to start counting. The second elapsed time counter recognizes when a second time threshold is exceeded, disabling both the indicator LED light and the main LED lights, thereby notifying maintenance personnel that the main LED lights have reached their end of life.

    摘要: Provided is a side-to-side high field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometer (FAIMS) including a generally cylindrically-shaped inner electrode having a length. Encircling the inner electrode is a generally cylindrically-shaped outer electrode assembly comprising at least first and second and third outer electrode segments. Each of the outer electrode segments has a channel extending therethrough and open at opposite ends thereof. In an assembled condition, the second outer electrode segment is disposed intermediate the first and third outer electrode segments in an end-to-end arrangement, each one of the first and second and third electrode segments overlapping a different portion of the length of the inner electrode. An electrical contact is provided on at least one of the inner electrode and the second outer electrode segment for receiving a first direct current voltage between the inner electrode and the second outer electrode segment, and for applying an asymmetric waveform voltage to the at least one of the inner electrode and the second outer electrode segment. The second outer electrode segment is maintained at a different potential relative to the first and third outer electrode segments, such that a potential gradient is formed in a direction along the length of the inner electrode.

    摘要: Disclosed is a high field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometer (FAIMS) having a side-to-side electrode geometry. The FAIMS includes an inner electrode (102) having a length and an outer surface that is curved in a direction transverse to the length. The FAIMS also includes an outer electrode (104) having a length, a channel extending therethrough along at least a portion of the length, and a curved inner surface, a portion of the length of the outer electrode overlapping a portion of the length of the inner electrode so as to provide an analyzer region therebetween. The outer electrode has an ion inlet (114) for introducing ions from a source of ions into the analyzer region and an ion outlet (112) for extracting ions from the analyzer region, the ion inlet and the ion outlet being disposed on opposing sides of the outer electrode. The FAIMS is characterized in that at least one of the inner and outer electrodes is shaped such that a width of the analyzer region in the vicinity of the ion outlet is other than a width of the analyzer region in at least one other region.

A method according to the instant invention includes a step of introducing ions including an ion of interest into an analyzer region of a FAIMS. A flow of a doped carrier gas other than air is also provided through the analyzer region. The doped carrier gas includes a carrier gas and a trace amount of a predetermined dopant gas, the predetermined dopant gas selected for improving at least one of a peak separation and a signal intensity relating to the ion of interest relative to the peak separation and the signal intensity relating to the ion of interest in the presence of the carrier gas only. The ion of interest is selectively transmitted through the analyzer region in the presence of the doped carrier gas, and detected at a detector.

    摘要: Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for separating ions produced at an electrospray ionization source, based upon the high field mobility properties of the ions. An apparatus according to the instant invention includes a high field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometer (FAIMS) having an analyzer region defined by a space between an inner electrode (32) and an outer electrode (34). In particular, the outer electrode includes an ion inlet (38) for introducing ions into a first portion of analyzer region and an ion outlet (56) for extracting ions from a second portion of the analyzer region. The FAIMS is characterized in that a gas-directing conduit (48) is provided through at least a portion of the inner electrode. In particular, the gas-directing conduit includes an opening at a first end thereof for supporting fluid communication between the gas-directing conduit and the first portion of the analyzer region. The gas-directing conduit is adapted at a second end thereof opposite the first end for supporting fluid communication between a gas source and the gas-directing conduit. The opening is orientated relative to the ion inlet such that gas provided through the gas-directing conduit flows partially outwardly from the analyzer region through the ion inlet, so as to desolvate the ions produced at an ionization source (42, 45) as they are introduced into the analyzer region.
