    摘要: A method is disclosed for terminating the metallic shield of a high speed cable which includes an inner dielectric inside the metallic shield, as well as a system for effecting the method. At least a portion of the outer jacket of the cable is removed to expose a portion of the metallic shield. An insulating member is positioned between the metallic shield and the inner dielectric of the cable. The cable then is positioned on a conductive terminating member having a portion in registry with the exposed portion of the metallic shield outside the insulating member. The metallic shield is soldered to the portion of the terminating member, as the insulating member protects the inner dielectric from the heat of the soldering step.

    摘要: An electrical edge connector and a terminal therefore for connecting a first electrical circuit board to a second electrical circuit board, the first electrical circuit board having an insertion edge and two sides, the connector comprising an elongated dielectric housing having therein a longitudinal slot for receiving the insertion edge of the first electrical circuit board and a plurality of transverse terminal receiving cavities adjoining the slot on each side of the slot, and a plurality of signal terminals disposed within some of the terminal retention cavities on each side of the slot and a plurality of ground terminals disposed within others of the terminal retention cavities on each side of the slot, the signal and ground terminals each having a base portion, a retention portion extending from the base portion and retaining the terminal in one of the retention cavities, a tail portion extending from the base portion for electrically connecting the terminal to the second electrical circuit, and a spring arm connected to the base portion for electrically connecting the terminal to the first electrical circuit board, the ground terminals including a generally tapered, enlarged surface area portion for enhancing electrical coupling between the ground terminal and an adjacent signal terminal.

    摘要: A shielded electrical connector is disclosed for mating with a complementary electrical connector. The shielded connector includes a dielectric housing. A first region of the housing has a plurality of first terminals mounted therein in a first given array for interconnection with a plurality of first terminals of the complementary connector. A second region of the housing has a plurality of second terminals mounted therein in a second given array for interconnection with a plurality of second terminals of the complementary connector. An air gap is provided in the dielectric housing between the first and second arrays of terminals to form a barrier to reduce the capacitive coupling and crosstalk between the terminals in the first and second arrays thereof.

    摘要: A right-angled electrical connector includes a dielectric housing having a front mating face and rear face with a plurality of terminal-receiving passages extending therebetween. A plurality of terminals have forwardly projecting contact portions in the passages and right-angled tail portions projecting rearwardly from the housing. At least a first tail portion is longer than a second tail portion, whereby their respective terminals have circuit paths of different lengths. A ground plate extends alongside of and spaced from the first and second tail portions. A dielectric member is located between the ground plate and one of the first and second tail portions for controlling a circuit characteristic of the circuit path through the terminal of which the one tail portion is a part.

The system includes a conductive two-part terminating member having a shield management part and a shield terminating part. The shield management part is adapted for allowing separation of the metallic shield from the inner dielectric and soldering of the shield to the shield management part, while protecting the inner dielectric from the heat of soldering. The shield terminating part is adapted for grounding the metallic shield and includes a receptacle for receiving the shield management part in conductive engagement therewith.

    摘要: A terminal contact arrangement for a connector promotes reduction in deviation of the impedance of the connector when mated to an opposing connector and energized. The connector has an insulative housing with a plurality of terminal-receiving passages disposed in it. Conductive terminals are supported in some, but not all of the passages. The terminal contain distinct terminal sets that include a pair of differential signal terminals and at least two associated ground reference terminals. The two associated ground reference terminals are interconnected together so that electrically, they act as a single ground terminal having a width equal to the sum of the widths of the two connected ground reference terminals. The ground reference terminals of the sets are disposed in a single row of terminals, while the differential signal terminals of the same terminal set are disposed in another row of terminals spaced apart from the row of ground reference terminals. The differential signal terminals are separated from each other within their terminal row by an empty passage so that the two differential signal terminals of each terminal set are spaced farther apart from each other than they are spaced apart from their associated ground reference terminals.
