摘要： Fuel delivery valving operatively mounted in an axially extending center bore of a high pressure pump rotor. The valve axially shifts between an open position in which a charge of fuel generated by the pump is transmitted as a pressure wave to a fuel injector nozzle and a closed position in which the pump charging chamber is sealed from the injection line and the injection line is vented to low pressure so that secondary pressure waves reflecting from the injector nozzle will be routed to the low pressure line for dissipation therein rather than rebounding from the delivery valve. This improves engine operation efficiency and eliminates seocndary injection of fuel by the injector nozzle and high hydrocarbon and smoke emissions. One embodiment has a fuel delivery valve operatively mounted in each discharge fitting of a hydraulic head assembly of the fuel injection pump.

摘要： The air/fuel ratio of the combustion mixture in the cylinders of an engine is sensed and the sensed air/fuel ratio is controlled to a predetermined scheduled air/fuel ratio by controlling the amount of exhaust gases recirculated. When the exhaust gas recirculated is substantially zero, the air/fuel ratio is thereafter closed loop adjusted to a predetermined scheduled minimum air/fuel ratio when the sensed air/fuel ratio is less than the minimum and when the sensed air/fuel ratio is greater than the minimum while the operator command is at a maximum to thereby provide precise fuel limiting at a predetermined fuel limit schedule.

The cam shaft does not complete a full rotation during the oscillation. A fuel rail pump is operated with the oscillating cam shaft until the monitored pressure in the fuel rail reaches a minimum level, and the engine is started after reaching the minimum level.

摘要： A poppet covered orifice fuel injector nozzle for use in a direct injection type diesel engine has a spray tip with a spring biased poppet valve journaled for reciprocable movement therein, the lower reduced diameter free end of the spray tip and the head of the poppet valve having opposed frusto-conical valve seat surfaces with a differential angle of about 2.degree. so that seating engagement occurs at the outer peripheral edges thereof. The poppet valve has a fuel supply passage extending through the stem thereof for flow communication with a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart radial orifices that are inclined and located so as to discharge fuel parallel to and directly across the valve seat surface of the poppet valve. A retainer is sealingly fixed to the free stem end of the poppet valve and a damping piston encircles the stem of the poppet valve in position to cooperate with the retainer for one-way damping of valve movement in a valve opening direction.

The fuel injection module injects a desired amount of fuel into a cylinder of an engine during engine cranking.
