    摘要: A structure comprising an inorganic oxide substrate having thereon an organic polymer layer, characterized in that interposed between the substrate and the organic polymer layer there is an adhesion promoting layer of a block or graft copolymer, one component of which is compatible with the organic polymer and a second of which is a poly(vinyl phenol) component that is capable of hydrogen bonding with the inorganic oxide substrate is disclosed. In preferred embodiments, the substrate is a semiconductor material and the adhesion promoter facilitates the adhesion of a photoresist or protective coating.

    摘要: Polymers such as phenyltrimethoxysilylterminated polystyrene are prehydrolyzed and then condensed with a metal alkoxide using acid catalyzed sol-gel reactions. The product is an organic/inorganic composite in which a metal polycondensate core is covalently bonded to a plurality of organic arms. The core has more metal atoms than heretofore obtainable. The process of this invention provides a means for introducing an inorganic phase into an organic polymer and maintaining solubility of the resulting composite in organic solvents. The products of this invention have a larger organic phase than products discussed in the literature. They also have residual chemical reactivity.

    摘要: Living polymers endcapped with a silicon containing group can be prepared by reacting a living, anionic polymer with an endcapping agent such as p-(chloromethylphenyl)trimethoxysilane. Such materials possess narrow molecular weight distributions, predictable molecular weights, and high functionality. The functionality is controlled by employing either a monofunctional (f=1) or difunctional (f=2) initiator. The endcapped, unifunctional products of this invention can serve as stable precursors for the preparation of soluble, branched polymers, and the difunctional products of this invention serve as efficient, water curable coatings.

    摘要: The present invention relates to the fields of chemistry and biology and more particularly to the field of biomaterials. The present invention includes amphiphilic fibers and membranes, which can be used for biomembranes and biocompatible devices. The present invention also relates to processes for preparing amphiphilic fibers and membranes from solutions comprising amphiphilic molecules. More particularly, the present invention relates to processes for preparing fibers and membranes from electrospinning solutions comprising amphiphilic molecules. The present invention further provides fibers and nonwoven membranes comprising amphiphilic fibers chosen from anionic surfactants, cationic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, phospholipids, sulfobetaines, lyotropic liquid crystalline molecules, and/or block copolymers. Electrospun fibers offer the potential for direct fabrication of biologically based, high-surface-area membranes without the use of multiple synthetic steps, complicated electrospinning designs, or post-processing surface treatments. Polymeric phospholipids, for example, have been shown to be attractive candidates for blood purification membranes, artificial heart valves and organs, and other prosthetics, including other biocompatible devices.
