摘要： Method and communication system for a railroad train having at least one locomotive for automatically adjusting the communication system to provide effective communication of command data to control operation of the locomotive are provided. The system includes a transceiver on the locomotive. The system further includes at least one transceiver remote from the locomotive. A database may be provided for storing data relative to a plurality of communication schemes available to the communication system. A first monitor may be used for sensing a parameter indicative of the quality of the communications between the transceivers when the transceivers are operating under a first one of the available communication schemes and generating data indicative of communications quality. A processor in communication-with the monitor and the database may be configured to select a second communication scheme when the quality of the communications provided by the first communication scheme is not satisfactory to ensure that the command data will be reliably communicated with respect to the locomotive.

摘要： The invention relates an assay useful for screening and identifying compounds as modulators of lower alkyl phenol activation of TRPA1. Thymol, a lower alkyl phenol anti-infective and the active ingredient in, e.g., mouthwashes, is stringent and has an objectionable burning taste sensation. Thymol activates the transient receptor potential like ion channel TRPA1. The assay described and claimed herein involves measurement of activation of TRPA1 and enables the screening of compounds that inhibit lower alkyl phenol, or thymol activation of TRPA1. Inhibitors of thymol activation of TRPA1 can be used to prevent the objectionable taste of thymol in medical uses where taste limits acceptance.

摘要： An improved machine for performing a swaging operation includes a mandrel and an expandable collet that are mounted to an actuator such as a conventional pneumatic gun. The mandrel includes a plurality of ramped planar engagement surfaces that are slidably engageable with a plurality of planar reaction surfaces on deflectable segments of the collet. The planar nature of the engagement surfaces and the reaction surfaces avoids unwanted deflection of the segments that would otherwise turn the segments into cutting tools, such as would occur if the surfaces were of certain other shapes. The mandrel is rotatably mounted to the pneumatic gun whereby the engagement surfaces are self-aligning with the reaction surfaces during an initial stage of a swaging operation.

摘要： A hog farrowing system for use in a cold environment includes a building providing protection from weather elements. The farrowing boxes have an entrance to permit free ingress and egress of female hogs but restrain the piglets. An alley is provided outside the boxes for the female hogs to defecate, urinate, and move to feed and water stations outside the boxes. The boxes have sides which define an inner chamber, a heat system, bedding for the female hogs to nest, and insulation covering an open top during cold environment conditions. The method utilizes the steps of promoting the female hog to utilize natural instincts, promoting the female hog to give birth to piglets close to the heat source, and protecting the piglets from crushing by using a creep area, anti-crush rods and anti-crush boards. The farrowing boxes can be modified for use in a warm season.

摘要： A fully automated surface profiling system having a loading chamber and an adjacent measurement chamber containing a phase differential laser optical scanning system and a five-axis positioner having a vacuum chuck for holding and orienting a wafer for surface profile measurement. The positioner can displace a mounted wafer lengthwise and crosswise of the chamber, can rotate the wafer about vertical and horizontal axes through the positioner, and can rotate the wafer about its own axis. Each motion is motor-driven and can be carried out independently of all the others or in compound motion as needed. The positioner can accommodate a series of replaceable chucks for holding wafers of different diameters. The loading chamber has a cassette dock for receiving a cassette containing wafers to be tested, a robotic server, and a prealigner. All operations within the profilometer are controlled by a programmable CPU at a control station. Test results and analysis can be displayed on an onboard monitor or printed out or stored or transmitted. In operation, the robotic server selects a wafer from the cassette, presents the wafer to the prealigner for centering and orientation, and transfers the wafer through a slot into the measurement chamber and installs the wafer on the positioner for measurement. The positioner orients the wafer responsive to program commands from the CPU, and the desired surface profile measurements are made. When all measurements have been completed on a wafer, the robotic server removes the wafer from the positioner, returns it to the cassette, and selects another wafer for testing.

The torque generator generates a defined auxiliary torque about the point-of-contact of the steering wheel, and it is sized to balance the naturally occurring torques arising at slow speeds about the point-of-contact of the steering wheel, thereby improving the stability and control of the vehicle.
