    摘要: An internal combustion engine exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system includes an exhaust gas manifold back pressure valve insert assembly which has an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) conduit interposed between exhaust manifold structure of the engine and atmospheric exhaust structure, and a valve mechanism disposed within the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) conduit and movable between a fully closed position at which all exhaust gases from the engine pass to atmospheric exhaust through the atmospheric exhaust structure, and a fully opened position at which the valve mechanism partially occludes the atmospheric exhaust structure such that a sufficiently large back pressure is developed with respect to the atmospheric exhaust structure such that exhaust gases are forced through the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) conduit.

    摘要: An integral engine fueling and engine compression braking hydraulically actuated, electronically controlled unit injector (HEUI) system comprises a fuel injection piston. A brake rocker arm extends transversely through the fuel injector and axially accommodates the fuel injector plunger and plunger return spring. The brake rocker arm is also operatively connected to the engine exhaust valve rocker arm, and a camming shaft, having a flat or planar surface portion, is operatively connected to an end portion of the brake rocker arm. When the end portion of the brake rocker arm is disposed in contact with the flat or planar surface portion of the camming shaft, normal fuel injection can occur in accordance with an electronic control module (ECM). When the electronic control module (ECM) actuates a servomechanism for rotating the camming shaft such that the end portion of the brake rocker arm is disposed in contact with a curved portion of the camming shaft, a brake actuation sleeve, mounted upon the brake rocker arm, engages the fuel injection piston such that upon actuation of the fuel injection piston, the brake rocker arm causes the exhaust valve rocker arm to actuate the exhaust valve so as to achieve engine compression braking.

    摘要: A blowby disposal system for disposing of blowby contaminants from a blowby mixture contained within a crankcase chamber of an internal combustion engine includes an air-oil separator, a passage to transport the blowby mixture from the crankcase chamber to the air-oil separator, a pump, and a passage to transport the blowby contaminants from the air-oil separator to the pump. The pump directs the stream of contaminants into the exhaust system of the engine where it becomes a portion of the overall exhaust emission stream. Degradation of the engine components and the turbocharger components is reduced because the blowby contaminants are not introduced into these components through the air intake system.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine including at least one cylinder head defining a plurality of combustion cylinders. Each combustion cylinder has a displacement volume. An exhaust manifold is fluidly connected to each cylinder for transporting exhaust gas therefrom. An intake manifold provides combustion air to each cylinder. A turbocharger is driven by exhaust gas from the exhaust manifold and provides charged combustion air to the intake manifold. A mixing vessel has at least two inlets, at least one outlet and a mixing chamber. One of the inlets is fluidly connected with the exhaust manifold and an other of the inlets is fluidly connected with the turbocharger. The one inlet and the other inlet are connected with the mixing vessel in a parallel manner. The mixing chamber has a volume which is dependent upon a plurality of the displacement volumes.

    摘要: An outwardly opening valve system for an engine includes an engine having a hollow piston cylinder in fluid communication with a gas passageway via an opening. The engine also has a piston bore that opens to the hollow piston cylinder. A portion of the opening includes an outward valve seat positioned adjacent the gas passageway. An outward valve member with a valve face is positioned substantially in the gas passageway. The valve member is moveable between a closed position in which the valve face is against the valve seat closing the opening and an open position in which the valve face is away from the valve seat. An intensifier piston is positioned to reciprocate in the piston bore and has one end contacting gas within the hollow piston cylinder. Finally, a coupling linkage interconnects the intensifier piston to the outward valve member so that the valve member is held closed during combustion by exploiting combustion pressure within the hollow piston cylinder.
