The system includes a vehicle having a plurality of proximity sensors coupled to an adaptive cruise control system. A braking system is coupled to the adaptive cruise control system that controls a front and a rear wheel braking system in different patterns. When one of the proximity signals is a distance below the threshold distance, the adaptive cruise control system activates the braking system. The front and the rear wheel braking systems may be activated for a first and a second time period, respectively. The first and the second time periods correspond to a first and a second braking pattern, respectively.
