Abstract:
A rearview mirror assembly includes a housing. A circuit board is positioned within the housing. A cantilevered contact is coupled with the circuit board. An electro-optic element is positioned proximate the circuit board. A first substantially transparent substrate defines a first surface and a second surface. A first edge extends around the first substrate. A second substantially transparent substrate defines a third surface and a fourth surface. A second edge extends around the second substrate and defines a notch having a notch edge set inboard from the second edge. An electrical bus extends proximate the first and second edges. A primary seal is disposed between the first and second substrates. The seal and the first and second substrates define a cavity therebetween. An electro-optic material is positioned within the cavity.

An electro-optic apparatus configured to adjust in transmittance in response to a control input comprises a first web substrate and a second web substrate. Each of the web substrates form a plurality of perimeter edges. A first edge is in connection with a first electrical terminal connecting in connection with a first electrode. A second edge opposing the first edge is in connection with a second electrical terminal in connection with a second electrode. A third edge and an opposing fourth edge comprise a barrier seal in a first configuration in connection with an exterior surface of each of the first web substrate and the second web substrate. The barrier seal encapsulates the electro-optic medium between an interior surface of each of the first web substrate and the second web substrate.

Abstract:
An electro-optic assembly is provided that includes a first substantially transparent substrate comprising: a first surface, a second surface, and a first peripheral edge, the second surface comprises a first electrically conductive layer and a first isolation area. The assembly further includes a second substrate comprising: a third surface, a fourth surface, and a second peripheral edge, the third surface comprises a second electrically conductive layer. The assembly also includes a primary seal between the second and third surfaces, wherein the seal and the second and third surfaces define a substantially hermetic cavity; an electro-optic medium at least partially disposed in the cavity; and an electrically conductive solder that is disposed on at least portions of at least one of the first and second peripheral edges in electrical contact with one of the first and second electrically conductive layers.
Abstract:
A variable transmission element includes a first substrate that has a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. A second substrate includes a third surface and a fourth surface opposite the third surface. The first and second surfaces face each other and are disposed in a spaced apart relationship so as to define a space therebetween. A seal formed of a sealing material extends along a perimeter of the first and second substrates. A first lamination layer comprises a first lamination material that is different from the sealing material and the first lamination layer is coupled to the second surface. A second lamination layer comprises a second lamination material that is different from the sealing material and the second lamination layer is coupled to the second substrate. An electro-optic device is disposed between the first lamination layer and the second lamination layer.
Abstract:
A vehicle window assembly includes first and second substrates substantially transparent to visible light and a seal with internal and external portions. The second substrate is disposed in a spaced apart relationship relative to the first substrate and defines a space therebetween. The internal portion is disposed in the space between the first and second substrates along at least part of peripheries thereof. The external portion is disposed external relative to space between the first and second substrates, has a substantially flexible construction, and substantially extends outward from the first and second substrates. The seal substantially inhibits at least one of water and oxygen from entering the space. A coupling agent is disposed between the first and second substrates, laminates the substrates together, and adheres the seal thereto. When disposed in a window opening, the external portion of the seal deflects against an edge of the opening.
